The dog musing/vent thread

So, Mimi broke her skull Wednesday. Because of course that happens. That's a normal thing.

She'll be fine and doesn't seem to notice anything is wrong. She's giving me grey hair. Effing squirrel.

Holy... what? Did she run into something going for a squirrel?

Unfortunately didn't see exactly what happened. She jumped off the deck (per usual) and the squirrel must have been in the flower bed. She pulled a 180 to come back towards the deck after it, busted through the plastic fencing I'd stapled up to keep the dogs out from under the deck, and proceeded to chase it while under there. Heard a collision and a yelp and she came out with a small abrasion (pencil eraser sized) on her head. I didn't realize it was more than that until I had her in the tub to get the mud off. A tiny superficial wound, a dent, you could see the displaced bone, and a bloody nose. We're guessing she smashed into the corner of a board.

Omg I'm glad she's ok. That sounds bad!

That would freak me out seeing the bone out of place... I was picture a hairline fracture or something but YIKES. Did she need surgery or is there nothing to do but bubble-wrap her for a while?

FFS Addie, stop with the trying to kill me!

The last three weeks have been non-stop herding of my feet (and only mine), rebounding off my stomach, standing up and pouncing on my leg, jumping on my head when laying down, doing zoomies around the house and jumping on my stomach like a launching pad. Go pick on DH for a change.

I've tripped on her, around her and am seriously annoyed. I've increased play, I've increased tricks, doing agility now. Gah. Thank Dog she only weighs 10 pounds.

Thankfully there's nothing to do but wait in this case. Sustaining a worse break might have resulted in the the need for surgery, but the vet is sure this will heal on it's own.

She's acting like nothing is wrong for the most part! Though I think she broke her sinus because air is seeping under her skin. Which is gross.

Lilah was quite timid and reactive of the boyfriend for the first half day, but apparently has made significant progress just in a day! Kissing him this morning and coming up to him for pets.

I'm really happy it's all working out with the couple. Now to hope that they're reliable owners and won't randomly not want her anymore in the future some time. (I always fear the worst)

This dog is finally beginning to earn her keep! We did a commercial shoot yesterday. Day off work? Playing with dog? Getting paid for it? Sure why not?

My plan is to buy a camera with the cash she's 'earned' in the last few months once the Boxing Day sales are on. Which I will then use to take additional pictures of my dog.

I am FUMING. A dog attacked Hero yesterday and now he squeals in fear whenever a dog comes up to him. All the work I did socializing him was ruined in one event.

Oh no, that stinks! Hopefully it's not too bad, and he bounces back with lots of counter conditioning... It's basically what happened with Lancer as a pup, except multiple times.

I hope not :( Something similar happened to Crystal and she's been fairly reactive ever since.

Sharing this again for anyone who missed it the first time:

I don't know if you have seen this yet, but I would look into starting a possibly less strict version of this http://careforreactivedogs.com/

I'm on a reactive dog group on Facebook and a lot of the members there swear by it. I have been practicing this with Wilson whenever I can and he is slowly but surely making progress. Hero is still young so if you follow these guidelines I'm sure he can bounce back from this :)

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out :)

Was this a known dog or a strange dog?

A strange dog.

Anyone else noticing a trend of designer dogs that are beagles mixed with bulldog types? We have like 10 beagle/Boxers, beagle/bostons, beagle/frenchies, and beagle/english bulldogs at work all of a sudden. That's in addition to puggles of course.

Here it's still all about the doodle or -poo. But here beagles are also a dime a dozen, so maybe they aren't 'exotic' enough to consider making designer dogs from.
