Just got back the results of Brisbane's massive allergy test. He's allergic to a bunch of grasses, trees, and weeds. Fleas, which we knew about. Also corn, barley, eggs, and sweet potatoes.

Sweet potatoes.

He didn't test positive for poultry allergens, but he reliably develops hotspots within half a day of eating chicken, turkey, or duck, so I'm not going to be adding those back to his diet for the moment.

But...sweet potatoes. Because it wasn't hard enough to find grain-free egg-free poultry-free food...
Oh no! That is tricky. Is raw an option for him?

Raw is an option, and I actually have four different kinds of food right now that are still Briz-safe. I just need to stop stuffing his kongs with baked sweet potato and develop better ingredient-reading skills.

This is exactly the sort of reason I made www.DogFoodWizard.com for.

Have you looked at holistic select? they have a turkey and lentils formula, potato free, it has turkey, but I do know a few people who have dogs with chicken allergies who eat it and they do fine on it, it might be ab option for you.

Nope, he very reliably gets very itchy within a few hours of eating turkey. Also duck and chicken. Every couple of years I ponder whether he's really allergic and feed him a chunk of raw poultry and then regret it when he gets crazy itchy for a few days.

I think Holistic Select makes a fish formula that he could actually have. Not sure anyone in town carries it, though. Right he's on Canine Caviar venison, PureVita venison, Real Meat lamb, and Ziwi Peak beef.

I'm pretty much just posting to compliment you on the app, it looks really handy. Has it gotten much traction or use from people that you know of?

Not yet. It's currently a little out of date and does not yet show protein/fat percentages or any of the other more recent additions to the data. My husband hasn't been great about implementing changes so I need to learn to do that myself.

What kind of allergy testing did he have done? If he hasn't shown a reaction to sweet potato, I wouldn't jump the gun on removing that from his diet.

Well I really hope you keep up the work on it because it's one of the best ideas for a dog-centric app I've seen in a long time. And unless you have objections to its being linked in its current state I'll probably refer people to it in the future.

It was the kind of testing where they drained out all his blood and sent it to a lab so he can get allergy shots. Seriously, so much blood. They needed 12cc of just plasma. He hasn't shown a gigantic and swift reaction to sweet potatoes, but he is generally itchy all the time and I'm hoping cutting those out will help.

Please do share! More interest is definite motivation to get working on it.

Brisbane sounds like Frodo!!

A couple options that might work:
-Acana Pacifica (what Fro eats)
-Natural Planet Rabbit and Salmon
-Pure Vita just came out with a Venison formula and a Duck formula that may work as well. If you read the ingredient list "fat product" is algae, not as bad as it sounds. :p

Acana Pacifica still looks safe. Not sure if anyone carries Natural Planet, but they have a couple that would work. I just got a big bag of PureVita venison right before I got the results so I'm pleased that is still safe. The PureVita salmon I got last week is not.

He can't have duck though. He's allergic to chicken, turkey, and duck, but not pigeon, quail, pheasant, ostrich, or emu.

The same company, KLN, makes both Natural Planet and Pure Vita, so you might be able to have the people special order it from the same place you get the PV from...

Both Siri and Frodo did really well on it.

When Sisci wakes up before me she whines a bit to let me know she's ready to get going. This morning I got up and let her out and then went back to bed after potty time. She bounced around the house for a bit and then went back in her crate and started whining. Apparently it means "wake up and play with me" and not just "let me out".

Abrams is getting neutered in 2 weeks. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I want it done before we move next year, and he's 2.5 now, so now is as good of a time as any. I just hope it doesn't drastically change him in a negative way.

I think the majority of my posts here include me being bored at work. <_<

Lancer becomes so worried and frustrated when I look at him and whisper his name. He hates it with a passion, and it makes me laugh, therefore I whisper more. HAAAha. I even took a video if it yesterday, but unsure whether I should post it on fb.

Anyone else's pup have a thing against name whispering, or just Lancer?

Is it totally mean that I just tested it out? lol. He actually was kind of weird in the fact that he TOTALLY ignored me. Like... he's less than 3 feet away and he just kind of laid there looking back and forth with just his eyes. When I finally said his name in a regular voice he looked right into my eyeballs like "WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY BECAUSE WE COULD! : D"

Tried it. Leo just immediately RAN over and dug his head under my arm for pets.

Edit: Tried it again. Same response every time.

I'm super frustrated. I ordered Joey's Halloween costume for my work party the other day. The plan was to dress him up as an AT AT and I was going to be Princess Leia. I went off his measurements and the size I was ordering for him said it fits springer spaniels, brittanys etc. He's a little bigger than those breeds but ok. His costume came and it's HUGE!!! It's not even just a little big and manageable. Put it this way, I think it could fit a dog three times his size. I called Amazon and they said they don't have the next size below in stock. The next size below btw says its for bichons, beagles etc. My Ibizan is MUCH larger than those breeds. So I'm back to the drawing board for costume ideas for him. The party is this Friday.

My weird pet best friend cleaned out her freezer into my freezer and now I have a bunch of stuff her birds wouldn't eat. Most of it is fish her stork refused. Brisbane is totally cool with crunching up frozen fish and thinks this is awesome.

Last night put an 8" frozen scad in Sisci's bowl and she spent several minutes circling it warily before deciding it was safe to approach. After eating everything else around it, she finally picked up the fish and carried it around for a while. Eventually she set it down and was distracted long enough for Brisbane to swoop in and devour it.

Today she just ate an entire bowl of food around a single frozen smelt. Now she's just staring at it. Whole fish confuse her.
