Zander has very goopy greenish eye yucks that have been getting progressively worse the last week. But otherwise his eyes are quite normal. Not red or inflamed. He doesn't squint or rub at them.

Uggggh. I am so on the fence about it. So I am doping him with benedryl in case it is allergies and see if it helps.

That happened with Cynder awhile back. I chalked it up to allergies, too. That may have been the initial issue, but it turned into an infection. 10 days of ophthalmic neopolybac twice daily cleared it up. :)

I got asked today if Cajun was a Doberman mix. And when I said no, there was some comment about how she looks like she's probably been mixed with something.

Is she show quality... no. But I don't think there's anything about her that would make me question her breed? Weird.

So our walk today was weird.

1. Hank peed on Mia twice. Yay

2. Three different conversations by people passing us

- that middle one is a heeler. They're my favorite breed.
- look at that jack Russell's colors! I've never seen one that color
- now that there is what a purebred rat terrier looks like.

Errr hate to tell you all BUT he's a mutt I'm 99% sure.

3. Aforementioned rat terrier person wanted to show her husband Hank. Hank was horrible. Horrible horrible. Like would not remotely sit still and jumpin everywhere. The guy left saying 'wow you've got your hands full'

4. Me with three dogs was rushed by a sprinting kid whose mom was yelling 'he has mental issues! He has mental issues!' I was terrified but Hank just started trying to play. Mia was freaked though

And I remind myself why I only walk all 3 at off hours usually. Sunday afternoon was a bad plan.

Oh god. What do you do when a kid with mental issues is rushing you? I know you're not supposed to grab people's kids... Would this be an exception? I would hope a parent would be thankful and understand??

Never thought about that one before.

I just froze up and tried to keep hank from bowling him over. He was wanting to pet the dogs. I hadn't even seen it coming and hadn't thought that situation through.

Ahh, I see. I don't have dogs that would tolerate that, so I would not be able to do damage control with just the dogs. If that kid was on us, Recon would most likely bite him and Patton would be tackling him. :O

Just got home from one of the craziest shows we have ever done. It was a family Christmas party for a bank chain's employees, over 6000 people in attendance.

Cobain was amazing (but I mean, when is he not?) and was still game at the end of the day even after running nearly every event in the second show.

Rigby was pretty well written out of the show, which was okay because the set up wasn't exactly conducive to keeping things low-stress lol.

Cobain is now sleeping at my feet, and Rigby is running around the house like a psycho trying to instigate every other dog here by throwing toys at them -_-

(Oz and Ruby were there too and did well in their own small little ways lol)

Sadness. I suppose we are off to the vet Friday if they don't get much worse before then. And of course there is no telling the cause so now I have to strip down his whole routine and change everything in the meantime. He is only allergic to the world.

Only Zander.

Aww, poor Zander! Hope his eyes feel better soon!

Scary thought on a special needs kid rushing up... Lily would give it kisses, but that would utterly terrify Scout. Luckily her first response is usually to try and hide behind me, but I don't think I'd risk it. I think I'd try to escape as quickly as possible or intercept and grab.

They've done awesome meeting people with special needs in more laid back circumstances, i.e. not getting bum rushed. One time we ran across a downs gentleman in the middle of the night on campus, clearly had escaped and Lily was like hey mom this really isn't normal. I walked over to campus safety and let them know so they could get him corralled and sent home. That was a couple years ago.

On the Scout being scared of kids vein, she did really well visiting the little girls yesterday. We went to visit my friend and Chicago and they were over. I was super happy to see them and the younger (who chewed on Scout when she was a toddler, hence Scout's fear of some kids) is doing really well on learning to let Scout come to her and is old enough to actually understand why Scout is scared now. Super neat seeing Scout learn how to relax around her now that she's grown up a little. And then Lily is just like hey I'll take all the attention right over here... Hussy. LOL.

I was not sure what Hank would do. I knew Summer would be ok and Mia would probably put up a show but just try to run away. Hank can be a little touchy with people behaving out of the norm and with being startled. Luckily Hank also ADORES kids so he thought it was amazing to have a kid yelling and running at him. Sadly, Hank is er.... enthusiastic about things and started jumping and spinning and attempting to chase. But it was all in play thankfully.

The kid's mom was a very long ways away and just yelling at me over and over. I am just really glad Hank just tried to play.

UGH I hate people, I really do. It sucks when you (general) are just trying to be out minding your own business, abiding by the laws and someone has to ruin it.

I feel your pain, although Josefina is very awesome and friendly she can be touchy about her tail and back end being touched when she is surprised by it. I have done a lot of work desentizing her to it, but she will still startle and wheel around when it happens, I dont like that she does that but I think I have come to a point where she is as good as she is going to get when it comes to her back end :p

Brisbane would almost certainly bite if he was rushed by a special needs kid. Ulysses probably would, definitely if it was a smaller kid. Heck, even Ru might have something to say about that. I wonder what the legal ramifications of that would be? Would I be held legally responsible and my dog potentially declared dangerous if he bit a kid that tackled him with no warning?

I also wonder about this when we're headed out to the dog beach on a sunny day and have to walk through the tourist beach full of running, screaming, oblivious children. Does it count as a provoked bite if a kid accidentally runs into, falls over, or otherwise rapidly invades a dog's space while playing in a public area?

After a sincere effort on my part to teach Ulysses that Kongs are fun to chew, he has finally caught on and can now retrieve all sorts of treasures from inside those little pods of wonder.

Today he actually destroyed a red Kong, but I don't think we need to move onto the black ones yet because he demolished one of Ru's. It had to have rolled off the counter, I just found it minus the top segment.

Do y'all think a 50lb dog can successfully pass the top section of an extra-tiny Kong?

Pretty much. Which is why I'm so worried about Middie while I'm living here. It's only a matter of time, really. With the child sticking his hands in Moo's bowl and shrieking and kicking at him occasionally, I don't even know.If the parents press charges your dog is ****ed. Even if the kid lets themselves into your house.

My ACD, Izze used to destroy the black kongs on a regular basis LOL. The onky things that lasted with her were those "tire biters" and the jolly balls for horses.

Yep... Doesn't really matter what the circumstances are in most places. I know here I'd be in deep ****. Which is why I'm hyper-aware of everything, have dogs that I can pick up and headlock if need be, and I don't think I would hesitate to down my dog and scoop that kid up and deal with THOSE legal ramifications over potentially having my dog euthanized or ridiculous legal stipulations for owning them.

eta; and I almost NEVER walk my dogs together, so I don't have to worry about dealing with them together. That would probably be a nightmare if something like this happened.
