Tell me about forced air dryers

I don't own a particularly fluffy dog, but I love the forced air dryer we use at work. They're particularly useful for looking at Brisbane's skin, and also for finding ticks and foxtails. Does anyone own their own dog blow dryer? Are there brands/models to stay away from?
 
I don't know a lot about them, but I own a small orange Metro 5.0 something or other haha. It works really well. Not quite as powerful as the one I used when I worked in a grooming shop, but powerful enough for at home. I use it at least monthly on three to four dogs and it's still as good as new. I'll never be without one now. I don't know how I did before.
 
Good to know! The ones we use at work run about $500 and I wasn't sure if there were lesser models that would be worthwhile. I know with meat slicers anything under $300 is likely to be garbage.
 
I have what is probably the same Metro orange one Toller has. I've had it for years with fairly routine use on Poodles and Chows and it's still held up fine. I can dry everyone in pretty speedy time :)
 
I think this is what I have. A Metro Air Force Commander. It's powerful enough for Aussie and Toller coats. Even when Journey is in full coat it doesn't take too long to dry her. If I'd had the money at the time I might have gotten a slightly more powerful one, but honestly I like this one. Easily portable and does its job well.

I will not touch any of the K-9's with a ten foot pole. Too many maintenance issues for what they cost. The upkeep is absolutely ludicrous. What I have in my shop (which is in my garage) is a B-Air Pro Series and I love it. It's relatively quiet (for what it is) extremely adjustable, and very easy to move or mount. It's also over $100 cheaper than any of the K-9's. I used to have a B-Air power force which is a smaller version and loved that too. It just wasn't enough for shop dogs.
 
Bahaha, I have the orange metro, too. I got it after I read a thread (here I think...) recommending them. Lifesaver when Hugo is being an undercoat shedding FOOL.

Oh, thanks for the suggestion! That is way more reasonable than what I've been looking at. The orange metro does nothing for the ACD coats, sadly.

I'm glad this thread came up again! I had just actually started looking at dyers again since I finally have room to set up a grooming area now.

I quickly looked at the B-Air pro and it seems to have double the HP as the metro for $100 more, so I think that's going to be the winner.

TCG: The listing for the B-Air says "variable" vs the metro's says 2 speed. I am taking this to mean it's dial adjustable so you have more "options" when setting the speed. Is this true? Or are they just using different terminology for the same thing?

It is INCREDIBLY adjustable, from a very low "gust" to full on "make a small dog fly away" blast. It is my favorite dryer ever. It's also very easy to maintain yourself, which is a huge plus for me.

ETA: MOST dryers are either single or two speed. The B-Air has a knob rather than a switch that controls air flow, which is amazing.

I find that too. Maybe it would be fine for a thinner long coat, but it's not worth my time to dry them with it unless I'm showing. Or if the coat is dry, to fluff. Lol..I never use it after swimming, it's easier to stick them outside to dry for a while.

Consider, if you ever need to dry quickly, getting a drying agent. "The Stuff For Dogs" is awesome. It makes them super soft and shiny and cuts drying time in half.
 
I finally talked myself into buying the orange Air Force dryer (Briz needs to be washed every few days, it's cold and he's getting creaky, it's really helpful for checking out his skin, we're moving in with my parents and they keep a board over their bathtub that practically turns it into a grooming table...)

I went to order it on Amazon and noticed they come in pink for $35 more and now I can't decide. I mean, all my other grooming stuff is pink or purple, but is it worth it?
