tearing up paper

hi,

does anyone have any ideas on how to teach my 5month old pup to stop tearing up paper and other things he finds. so far i have tried telling him NO and taking it of him but he always manages to keep doing it. please i need help desperately as my dad has threatened to not let him come inside ever again.

From what I have learned from my puppy now and the one's I have had in the past it is not really possible to teach them to stop ripping things up. The best thing you can do is to make sure that your pup doesn't have access to things you don't what it to chew and to supervise it when it is in a situation where it could rip/chew/tear.
Also make sure that your pup has plenty of "appropriate" toys to play with. If you catch it in the act of tearing something up say NO! and then replace it with an acceptable toy.
Puppies at that age explore their world with their mouths, anything left laying around is fair game.

I never had any luck stopping my westie from doing it. Mind you, it was my own fault. I taught him to tear up junk mail for me that I'd given him, and from then on he's assumed I want that doing to all my mail

(well, its my parents mail really as he lives with them!!)

I think you just have to keep the newspaper out of reach. My Max was actually called newspaper by my breeders grandchildren because he loved it so much.

My puppy does the same thing. Just tonight my dachie knowed over the trash, and found nothing good, but my pup bagel tore up all the papers that were their and spread them all around! No advice though, I can just sympatize with you. lol
