Sugar glider people!!!

I think it's been a while since anyone has posted pics/updates. Get to it people!

I've wanted some for a while, we have friends that have 6 and they got me interested. I finally got my own two girls this week. 6-7ft PVC cage and everything except the proper diet. I went out and got the ingredients for the BML diet until I can order HPW. They were eating pellets, corn flakes and other things.

I don't know about their story except the original owner died and a friend took them. One got loose and the lady was petrified. She locked the glider in the room lol and called a guy I work with to come get them both, that he could have them for free. He had them since around December. His wife got a job and they felt like they wouldn't have the time for the gliders anymore. He gave them to me for free. 6-7ft PVC cage, pouches, cage sets, and all for free. They came with one of the supplement powers that you use for the BML diet, so it makes me feel like the original owner was feeding them BML. I have no clue how long its been since they were on the proper diet. They are already super friendly from the start, but then again they have switched homes four times in a short period of time - so I guess they are used to it now. 2.5yrs old. I don't have names yet and I'm open to suggestions!

I saw this earlier, but since I don't have any new photos of my suggie crew since the last time I posted about them... I wanted to try to get new ones before posting. lol. Tried to avoid being redundant.

Awww, they are adorable!!! I need to get better pics, I have a few "first day home" pics but they are not great. Hopefully I will be able to get some within the next few days. Work work work. They are such neat little creatures. Like having a pet crackhead lmao.

I'll be watching this! I think they are stinking adorable! But I've also heard horror stories about the noises they make, and the potential for self-mutilation that I've read on the glider forums scares me. Plus, no more small critters until we are in a house

Regarding the noise... I dunno what you mean by horror stories? lol They have a tendency to bark, yip, snort, and sneeze while they are up and playing (especially in the cage, not so much during human interaction). They DO have a self-defense noise, called "crabbing", that is loud and startling... but that is really just a thing they do when they are scared. As they grow up and become more bonded, they rarely do it anymore.

The self-mutilation thing... yeah, that is a scary thought to have nagging in the back of your mind when you own these critters. I've never had it happen with any of mine, and hopefully never will.

So far mine don't make much noise. The bigger one crabs at me when I first get her out, and they will make little noises sometimes if they are in the bonding pouch but it really sounds like they are mumbling something to themselves. Crabbing is the strangest noise lol. I read someone describe it as sounding like sticking a pen inside of a pencil sharpener.

We had friends live with us for a few months, they have 6. Theirs could get noisy sometimes when they got lonely or hungry. But it was one or two gliders at a time barking. And they stopped if you went in and interacted with them. The wheel can be noisy lol! Usually ours only make noises because they have a reason to. We work nightshift, so it works well for us that they are up 9pm-7am.

I keep them and the rats far enough away that they can't see each other, and both cages get put in separate rooms when we leave, to protect both from the cats. The dogs get crated in a completely different room.

I've spent a fortune getting up the supplies for the BML diet. I chose it thinking the ingredients would be easier to obtain. (I would have had to wait on HPW powder to get shipped to me). I had a heck of a time getting ahold of one of the supplements lol! And the Gerber yogurt juice was impossible to find!

All of that said, I probably haven't had them long enough them long enough for them to let loose! Hahaha.

The support in the center of Wodent Wheels has always made me nervous... especially since suggies are one of those critters that are known to "bend the rules" (aka: I WONDER WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO [insert stupid idea]).

We've owned suggies for 8 years and swear by the Stealth Wheels. The suggies love them, they really are as quiet as they advertise, and they last quite a while. In our cage, you can hear the floor rattling as they run, but not the wheel itself.

You can also purchase Trim Trax (I think they are called) to attach to the wheel. It helps keep their little toenails from turning into daggers of death. Believe me, they are also worth it. We currently don't have Trim Trax set up on our wheel and there is a major difference. lol

Ok awesome! Our cage is PVC right now, so the floor isn't stable (bouncy mesh) and I think the noise comes from that. I will probably get a stealth just for the safety. I bought the trimmer insert for my wodent wheel, do you leave it in all of the time? Or just for a couple days?

With the stealth wheel, I just leave the Trim Trax on until it gets gross, then replace it. The only reason we don't have one on right now is because I ran out of extras and keep forgetting to order new ones.
