Or at least close...
How do you pronounce Fila? Is it a long I (f EEL uh) or a hard I (f EYE luh)??? I've heard it pronounced both ways, and frankly I prefer to be pronouncing it correctly so as not to sound like an imbecile.

Well, its a Spanish word, so I think F eel a would be the correct way. That's the way I've always pronounced it in my head.

Nope its Portuguese ;)

As a Brazilian I can assuredly tell you the proper pronunciation is

Fee-la Bra-zi-leh-roo
Fila Brasileiro

I have heard people say that the translation is "Brazilian daughter" this is actually incorrect, that would be Filha Brisileiro. "Fila" is taken from the word "filar" which means "to hold" or "to grip". Loose translation could make it "Brazilian Gripper"

And here every time I read it I was saying FILL-A Brass-il-ero. :rofl1: Good thing I never had to say it out loud to anyone. Ever.

It's good to have a laugh about name pronunciation once in a while! I can't imagine it being pronounced with a hard i, so 'f eel uh' it is for me. :p

I don't quite pronounce it like F-eel-uh...More like Fee-lah. Fee-lah Bra-sill-y'air-oh. Is the best I can type out my pronunciation, which I'm pretty sure is the correct way to pronounce it if you don't have a portuguese accent.
