No Richie it is not full of hate it has alot of good information and people who are passionate about what they believe. No one hates anybody here and it is better to have it all in this one spot then to have it scattered all over the forum. If it bothers you then avoid this thread.

I agree with Richie... I think this "nasty" thread was started kind of as a joke but it has gotten out of hand. We're not here to be "nasty" to each other... so I propose it gets locked and we all move on. Any takers?

I'm not entirely sure, I'm seeing lots of people bad talking Manchesters, and others. And yes, you're absolutely right, I should avoid this thread

Actually I did not start it as a joke I started it so we could avoid hurt feelings on the other threads. I just never ever thought it would take off like this. I thought it would be a great place for someone who disagrees with someone else but didn't know how to handle it to come and say I think you are stupid. You know what I mean. It would be better than having problems in the rest of the thread. I never ever thought it would get to 35 pages in less than a week. I thought maybe 1-2 pages and then it would be over. Boy there are some strong willed people out there. No one should ever defend themselves. State your opinion and if someone doesn't like it too bad. It is for the people reading to think and decide hey yeah I like that idea or nope not for me. Really that is how adults usually work but when we really don't want to respect others it makes it hard for newbies like me to learn. The arguing becomes too personal and then instead of learning valuable information instead I'm laughing and shaking my head at times at the personality conflicts. I find it sad that people can't just respect each other. Personnally I think a crate is a good tool but those of you who don't like them well that is your choice and not mine. Who am I too say you are wrong, or right for that matter. It is not my business to convince everyone to agree with me. It is for you with your own mind to decide if what my ideas are; are worth anything to you. Or would you be better to pass and try something else. Hey I am raising a german shepherd and what I do with this big galout may not work at all with a yorkie. So many ideas are worth alot to many different people but not to all people.

Renee was right it is the busiest forum. I for one do agree with the lock out as well though and have had my say here. I feel I am able to be polite and yet state my opinion where needed or wanted so I bid you all farewell here and will not be posting any more. Thank you to Adrienne and Manchester for the valuable information and to many others here whom I have learned loads from. I will meet you all on the other threads and look forward to chatting in the chat room as well. Have a great night.

I think the forum is good, but it has become too much !!!! Maybe it should be a post to a person to knock and no more. I personally liked the idea but it's become a mess. Now . before you can it, Grammy cut all her puppies nails from age 3 weeks on...... never had to tie a mouth.!!! It was part of their individual 15 to 20 minutes of one and one daily attention throughout their puppyhood with me. I'm sorry Manchester didn't start early.....but maybe that's the difference between manchesters and goldens.

Yup...gotta start early. I started with a Dremel on Lyric. It does such a nice, smooth job and although he isn't thrilled with getting his nails done, at least he doesn't have to go to the hair dresser. That's what I explain to him anyhow.

But I heard tell you gotta be careful with dogs around horse poop because tetanus can be passed from horse to dogs this way.
Tetanus is transmitted through the blood stream via a wound, not through the stomach.

Correct about the transmission of tetanus. And dogs frequently have cuts on the pads of their feet. Walking thru horse manure used for fertilizer lead to a Great Dane pup developing and dying from "lock Jaw".

As far as cutting toenails.....I have no trouble cutting any of my 20 dogs nails. What I wrote on my site was for those who are pet owners, and do not have the persistence needed for grooming dogs---you know, the ones that say "He WON'T LET ME cut his nails".

I did have (and still do) a male that was over a year old when I got him, who would try to savage my hand when I cut his nails. Also when I cleaned his anal glands. So I tied his mouth shut. It is called MUZZLING A DOG. Just like the vets do when they cut nails, etc. Poor Adrienne refuses to educate herself about the breeds of dogs I have, so of course has no clue as to what I am talking about. Of course now I can cut Ridgie's nails with no trouble, and also express his anal glands.

You see, tying the dog's mouth keeps the dog from working itself up into a panic, and leads to being able to do what you need to do without upsetting the dog. I have 20+ dogs, and clean teeth, express anal glands, and cut nails with no problems. But a pet owner who gets and older dog may have a dog that tries to eat the owners arse off.

It is sad that those who try to ridicule others so often end up acting so ridiculous themselves........right Adrienne? I do hope that any who do visit my site get a smile from viewing the antics of my little spoiled brats!

Muzzling is muzzling, tying is tying, to me it sounds a lot different and I don't know of any specific breed that is calmed down by being muzzled. Also what the heck is so different about your dogs? I do know about the breeds and I don't see what all the whoopdeedoo is about, they are still dogs. High prey drive, driven by sight (whippets), energetic, tenacious, driven, you could continue but the point is there. You are the only one making a fool of yourself Manchester. Not once have you shown why your dog food is better except the claims you make to a healthy coat, energy, and how much excretment they have. Prove to me that Pedigree is healthy, give me hard core facts. Any dog can have energy and a shiney coat even if they are eating garbage on the street, doesn't make it good for them. If it's covered in grease of course their coats will be shiney, if it has some protein sure the will have energy. I prefer to not stoop to your level of name calling etc. Maybe someday you won't be so darned narrow minded but it's no skin off my butt if you don't.

you expect a dog to trust u when u tie his mouth down, while doing something that terrifies him. you might be making great dogs, but is it for the benefit of the breed or your pocket? You probably do make great breeds of excellence, and pay alot of money to get them the way they are, but that money also comes back to you if the breed is of high standard.honestly, just wondering, so dont take to personal offense.

I have muzzled Yukon on occasion like at bath time when he conintually attacked me. It settled him right away and he just stood there and accepted the fact that he was going to be bathed. Now we just say bath time and he goes and sits in the bathtub and we hose him, shampoo, and super long rinse him. No problem, no muzzle needed.

My trainer said to muzzle a dog is the ultimate submission, so I would think it would not be good to do all the time, however this worked for me. I also have and do muzzle the little *** when he gets way to nippy with the kids. I call it the 5 min time out muzzle. But I would never muzzle for a long period or unattended. I also try my best to exhaust all other resources first. I know me I sure won't want to be muzzled so I figure they probably don't like it either.

I swear he is the devil reincarnated. He is teething so sometimes he forgets where his teeth belong and at bath time cujo 2 appeared but now he is super good to bath and he has made hugh improvements with the kids too, but every once in a while. He has so many toys yet like any baby the other things are more fun, like baby's fingers etc. He'll learn! I hope lol

I've had to muzzle a few dogs before in order to clip their nails and they do settle down a bit. From what I understand it's because a dog can only focus on one thing at a time, and the presence of a muzzle detracts from the fact that it's getting it's nails clipped. So I think it's more of a diversionary tactic and eventually those hard-to-handle dogs will get used to having their nails done, anals expressed, baths, etc. I used to have to almost sit on my cousin's SheltieX so I could clip her nails, but now she just whines, stands and waits for the upcoming treat.

Why do you have to take jabs and slings at me like you did above? What the heck does money have to do with anything??? I hate to burst your bubble, but no reputable dog person ever makes any money from dogs! A friend of mine broke even one year for the first time in 20 years! If you had a clue about breeding and showing then maybe you would not try to be so snide--even tho you weren't trying to offend personally, rofl.

The reason I have said people need to learn about Manchesters is because unless someone is at least familiar with Terriers in general they have NO IDEA of the stubbornness of these dogs. I started cutting my puppies toenails when they were 2 weeks old, so they would not claw the hell out of their mothers breasts. Now, we are talking a puppy that is smaller than a tennis ball, that refuses to be held still. There is nothing to hold onto while you cut the tiny little nails. It is a real struggle, believe me. And it is funny as hell to see the little monsters wiggling out of the tightest grip! They are like worms!!!!!

I do not have to tie any of my dogs' mouths shut now. They all know that they are not going to be killed when I do their nails. But there were times when they would decide to give me a hard time, so I would just tie their mouths closed. If some people around here would look up the definition of "muzzling" they would not be confused by the syntax I use. In general it means to prevent a dog from opening its mouth.

I went thru hell with Ridge when I got him. He was about 15 months old, and would have eaten my ass up. After many years of tying his mouth, we no longer have a problem, and I no longer have to tie his mouth.

I have talked with many Manchester breeders, and heard some pretty funny stories about what they resort to in order to cut nails. One super lady told me that she just turns them upside down, and clamps them between her thighs, rofl. Another lady puts the dog into a sling, and while it hangs there cuts the nails. And before Adrienne says something dumb, that is a full body sling...usually a towel with 4 holes cut in for the legs.

Now my dogs all mostly doze off while I am doing their nails and cleaning their teeth. So......again, I hate to say it, but I do know what I am talking about!

As to the question of what is so different about my dogs compared to others.............Sight hounds in particular have to be handled carefully. They have no body fat, and so are susceptible to anything that can get thru the skin. They are also ultra sensitive to any type of sedative. A normal dose of anesthetic may kill a sight hound. The same is true for Manchesters.

Also, Terriers AND sight hounds are treacherous, and CAN NOT BE LEFT ALONE UNATTENDED. In fact, Manchesters are one of the miracle terrier breeds that can be turned out together. The majority of Terrier breeds cannot be put together--either males or females. They will do their best to kill each other. That is typical Terrier Temperament.

Whippets and Greyhounds can start a fight at the drop of a hat, and slash the hell out of each other. Their skin is paper thin, and can tear easily. Greyhounds turned out muzzled can still slash each other with their nails. I have one Whippet male that I cannot trust, so when he goes out with his brother and the male Manchesters, he wears his muzzle. It is of course a wire basket plastic muzzle, so he can drink, or even eat pizza crust with it on. Once in a while he will try to make mashed potatoes out of a Manchester, but only half heartedly.

Those who made snide remarks about my insistence upon crating my dogs know nothing about the characteristics of my dogs. I do not care to risk a blood bath because the brats started a spat that got out of hand when I was not here. And of course, having a group of dogs, the pack instinct kicks in, and they will all jump on whichever dog is loosing the argument. And rip it to shreds. Nice, huh?

So anyway......it helps to understand why someone is saying what they are saying if you KNOW what their situation is.

As far as dogs doing well eating garbage????? What the hell!!!!! If they do good on it, then by all means feed them garbage for heaven's sake!!!!!!!!!! Geesh.......give me a break! I have provided proof for the quality of what I feed my dogs in my signature.....finally, lol. As I have said, the only proof of a food is what kind of puppies you get from females fed on this food during gestation, and during lactation, and the condition of the puppies. I rest my case. Plus the pups are cute as hell, rofl.
