Didn't want to highjack the other thread. :D But,
I go on Monday to register my kids at another school for next school year. It is the district where our land is... No we are not living there yet, but hubby is determined to be there by the start of the new school year. (It's only about 3 miles from where we live now) If we sell the house we live in now quickly, then our modular could possibly be ready by sept., if the house doesn't sell quickly then we will
have to live in the small upstairs apartment on top of the garage that is almost finished until we sell our house. Regardless I am getting pretty excited about the big move. Now if only someone would help me organize my house and get rid of everything we don't need. LOL

I can't wait to be in the middle of the woods....HEHE. We will have the only house on 36 acres with our own private dirt road driveway. I can't see any neighbors, the two closest neighbors are at the main road where you turn to go back our dirt driveway. And both of those neighbors are really nice.

I hope my dogs like goats.. I want at least one to start with. :D

Anyway after so long just waiting and working on the garage, it is finally going to happen! The well driller comes this sunday, too. Our electric is already in. And I also have a possible buyer of the home we live in now. He is my best friends brother... He is coming to look at the house next week... and it sounds like he is looking for what I have. It would be great if we didn't have to go thru a realtor.

Just thought I would share....
Julie.

Thanks! and I will keep you posted, if you don't mind seeing mud instead of a yard, because I just don't see a well manacured yard in that dirt for years. :yikes: I will just be happy with a decent place to live that is not in the middle of town.

We had our house built several years ago... but advice for your yard:

1. Be prepared to do it yourself. I know loads of people whose builders did a crap job (if any) on their yard. Ours planted seed at the height of summer with only a sprinking of hay over top of it, on an ungraded yard. After 6 years.. we now have SOME grass. Only because of backbreaking work last summer. And there will be backbreaking work this summer, as well. And probably the next few.

2. Insist upon having it graded.. arrrgh, it's hell if you don't :(

3. You don't need topsoil--but it suuuure helps.

4. if you can see lots of ground beneath the hay.. you don't have enough. Similiarly, if you have a thick bed of hay, you have too much over the seed.

5. Be generous with the seed. We found that when lots was sprinkled, about 20% more of the seed we spread grew. Not sure why this was, though.

For the horrible, evil, disgusting, red clay mud... Put down some largish "stepping stones" from your driveway to your house. Don't let ANY shoes you like touch the stuff, especially sneakers, nice shoes, anything suede-like. It will stain them, it will embed itself in them, and you will never get it out. Get some of those gigantic rubber boots, and use those for the yard--they are one of the best things we've ever spent money on. If you don't already have one, a "NO SHOES IN THE HOUSE" rule works well, and anything with red clay should stay outside/garage/porch/etc where they can be hosed off or let to dry. Put them down on a trash bag or a plastic mat, something easy to hose off. Be extra-vigilant about wasps. They love all the mud, because when it rains they tend to make their nests under your porch. Screen under the porch helped us, but I sure wish we'd known that when we moved in.

Sorry for the long post.. but, well, I have a lot of advice when it comes to crap I hate, lol!!! Good luck on selling your house and moving into your new one! :D
