Okay. Some acquaintances have a chocolate Lab named Sooner. He is about 2 years old and such a sweet, bouncy dog. He has epilepsy and needs to take medication every 12 hours. I have done my fair share of talking with her... but they can't keep him. So I figured the best I can do is help look for a new home. He is fixed, UTD with all his shots... good with cats and dogs. *sigh* She contacted rescues in this area, but they won't take him.

OMG, I was just looking at that dog on Craigslist last night...have to admit I wasn't thinking the nicest things. She's listed her reasons as they aren't home for more than 12 hours at a time to give him his meds....so why are they keeping the other dog? How much time are they possibly spending with him if they can't be home at least once every twelve hours??

Huh? I didn't know she posted him on Craigslist. She's a stay-at-home mother.. so I don't know why she said that they aren't home enough *sigh*
I think he leaving for Iraq sometime this year and she is afraid she can't properly care for him with his seizures? I tried talking to her... but you know.

I would do anything for each of the furries... there are no reasons good enough for me to give up any of them... so I really do not understand.

Sure hope the baby doesn't get some medical condition that will "force" them to get rid of the baby as well...

Jules.. that is unbelievably sad. A stay at home mom who can't give him the meds? Even I can manage meds every 12 hours. *sigh* I bet it's the cost of meds rather than the frequency of administering them that is the cause of rehoming.

I know. And what is sad is that I really don't know who would take on a dog with epilepsy. I wish I could take him. :(

If I was on my own I would definitally take him (I have a vet tech friend who has a lot of experience with epileptic dogs), but my mom would never let me :(

Jules, do you know what is going to happen to Sooner if nobody takes him, or how long they are going to keep looking for a home for him?
There is a chance that I will be moving out sometime this summer, if I do and he is still with them, I would be able to take him...

This is why I <3 you. ^ :)

I get so frustrated when I see cases like this. No dog is ever perfect. I would never dream of giving Buddy away because he needed medication and *I* couldn't fit it into *my* schedule. It's just... :( .

Then what about the black lab??

Ditto that. Sounds like she's not telling the truth still.

Either she doesn't want to deal with a dog that has a medical issue or the dog uses the bathroom in the house or tears things up and she doesn't want to deal with that....something along those lines would be my guess.

I'm guessing it has nothing to do with the medical aspect, moreso a behavioral aspect.

Poor doggie.
