I took my 10 year old Poodle to an agility run through night becaese I wanted to see what level to start him in for agility classes. He has not done agility in 9 years but when I was working with my mixed breed in the yard I noticed him at the door running in circles and barking like "let me do it!" I did a few things in the yard (I don't have much) and he LOVED it so I thought I'd try to show him.

He did GREAT! I could not even believe it. I was seriously shocked. After 9 years he did the full course (except I had him skip the teeter) weaves and all. The only mistake he made was one time he went in the weeves wrong. If he did the teeter (or if it was CPE without a teeter) he would have qualified and this was like an open course. Nine years and he still remembered it all! He was fast, happy and barked most of the time (barks of joy!). He did not miss one obstacle and I was even able to send him.

I wish I did not stop 9 years ago. I feel bad because of how much he really LOVES this. He is happier all around now, you can see it.

Wow! after nine years! Thats great! But why did you stop with him?

When he was 11 months old he broke his leg BAD so he had to take about a year off. At the time my twins were 10 and in December of that year my other Poodle got his agility titles so I retired him. I got caught up in the kids then I started fostering children. I just got back into it with my mixed breed and I noticed Zipo watching, barking and running in circles. I gave him a try on the board I have here at home (sitting on a ladder, I don't have much) and he was so happy. I took him to that run through and saw how happy he was and that he remembered it all so I am going to start back up with him. He is SO much happier in general. I wish I had not let so many years pass.

I entered him in a CPE show on Oct 10th. I only entered Fullhouse and Standard (level 1). The instructor of a CPE games class I went to (just one night) said he could enter level 2 or 3 but since it's been awhile I'd rather start with one.

It's great that you were able to recognise that he was still interested, it shows how much you care for your dogs. I hope you have fun at the competition
