I'm hoping that it's alright to put our other pet photos in this pet photos thread. :s Beware and be square, snake photos ahead!

I recently acquired all three snakes in the past 3~4 months. A little male albino ball python named Cake, a black pastel female named Blackout, and a Dumeril's Boa named Vigil. They all have very distinct personalities, which I find very fascinating.

Cake is quite inquisitive and quickly learned to trust me = "human hand is safe and warm, outside world is unknown and kind of scary, so stay on human hand yes yes". Blackout is an extremely fearful little ball of a ball python who gets startled very easily by any movement... I can take her out of her tub, and she can sit on my hand wrapped in a cautious ball for 15 minutes before deciding to poke her head around. And Vigil is just an extremely chill Dumeril's Boa who falls asleep on my lap or in my arms every time I take her out, and WILL stay in that fixed asleep position for hours and hours if I didn't wake her up. :p

Snakes definitely aren't a highly intelligent animal, but they are definitely smarter than a lot of people tend to give them credit for. Both ball pythons and dumeril's boas are extremely docile and shy species of snakes who just want to hide in a dark and warm hole all day long, until they get hungry. Then they just slither out slowly and sit there waiting for me to drop them a thawed rodent. I also discovered that snakes are THE MOST low-maintenance pets I have ever owned, out of the various animals I have owned. They eat once a week~every other week, poop and pee only once every other week... "playing" is just kind of... holding them. It's pretty great. Which is also why I stocked up on more snakes so quickly. It's so easy to add another with no trouble at all.

Compiling their old photos here too, for comparison in the future.

Cake and Blackout have both grown considerably since I've obtained them! When I received Cake, he was only a tiny 70g. Blackout was supposedly around 350g, but I feel like she might have been a bit bigger.

First post dedicated to Cake records...

June 23, 2015. 70g. Some size reference...

June 10, 2015

A tiny little worm hanging on my neck, relative to me. June 10, 2015. I was thinking of taking a snake neck selfie every few months to record growth relative to my face, instead of just photos of Cake alone.

This little golden garden king. (reptile-safe succulent: potted Portulacaria afra with no fertilizers) This stuff is safe for tortoises to munch on too.
Literally grown in a flat miniature landscape for the sole purpose of reptile photos. LOL.

August 25th... already no longer fits entirely on my hand.

Cake is on adult mice now. I don't know if anyone here gets queasy with feeding photos, but... I always thought that this stage of the feeding process looked really funny. BUTT OUT. The mouse was black so we can actually see it going down Cake's weirdly transparent neck... spooky.

and yeah, jammin to backstreet boys. Aw yiss.

(in reality, snakes just like electronics because they are warm :I )

And Blackout! When I first received her in a shipping box...

July 13, 2015. Blackout struck her food straight into the water bowl. Oh little kid.

July 24, 2015. At 500g. Casually being an excellent jewelry display noodle.

(apologies for the gigantic photos alskjdsjkf... unintentional. D: How to make small.)

And last is Vigil, my dumeril's boa. They average at around 6 feet it seems, but 7 or 8 feet is also not unheard of... not too uncommon. I'm kind of hoping she doesn't get over 7 feet long, or I'd definitely have a hard time picking her up by myself. :p

She's currently still very small! Around 2.5~3 feet long.

These guys are GORGEOUS. I would definitely have a snake if it wouldn't make my spouse move out of the house. I'm especially fond of Blackout. Her colors are just crazy gorgeous.

LOL they are just lazy and shy legless reptiles, it makes me laugh. :thumbsupsmileyanim: And thanks, she's particularly photogenic for some reason.

So pretty! I had a cornsnake and a ball python for a few years, but my husband was terrified of them. He didn't move out, but he did have repeated night terrors.

Oh man, my mom would probably have the same night terrors if I lived at home LOL. Understandable, but did you give your guys away? ;;

Oooo they're gorgeous! I love BPs. Don't know much about Dumeril's. Gimme CAKE!!!!!!
Thanks! If you know BP's, you can say you know Dumeril's.. they are also known to be chill as heck, just grow longer and need more room than balls.
*gives you A SLICE OF CAKE* oh woops

Great pics. I like that you went for an albino and a black pastel, real color variety there. I prefer the darker morphs myself although my only ball python is a normal. It's so fun getting babies and growing them up, my bp is around ten so I'm always amazed at how little babies are. I did get a dumerils myself this year so he's about the same size as yours, I've always loved their pattern and mine is very calm but a great eater. Can't wait until he gets some size on him.

You seriously make me want a snake. Like, really bad. But... That won't happen for awhile, because everyone I live with is absolutely terrified of snakes, ahahah.

But, I'm seriously considering getting snake once I move out, you know, to help with my dog want, and because they're awesome. But... I literally have no snake experience, or knowledge, so...

Wonderful pictures, by the way. Your seriously an amazing photography. Your snakes are absolutely gorgeous, they're drool-worthy.

Oh yes, I had an albino black pastel project in mind when I got Blackout... :D
Ten years old! You got into BP's awhile ago... And a dumerils too wowie! (What are the chances that we on a random and relatively close-knit dog forum have the same snake species? LOL) How old is your Dumerils?

Aha... haaa I was going to say "Get it. Get snake baby," and then I continued reading about 5 more words and sobbed. It's the same with my family, but thankfully I happen to live separately now- or I'd have never gotten these guys. Maybe you can show them a very mild-mannered albino ball python and convince em.. ;)

Snakes (particularly ball pythons and corn/king snakes) are VERY easy to get into. All the info is right at hand with the existence of snake forums, and snakes are the single most low-maintenance pets I've had. I'm on ball-pythons.net frequently, and there is a wealth of info on there. Good people too! You might as well join and lurk for preparation... wink wink nudge nudge ehehe. :p

And thank you! ;;

I've had the ball for a long time but only got into adding to my collection a couple years ago, besides him and the dum. I've got a red tail boa, 4 short tail pythons and a western hognose. The dumeril's is probably around a year old? I bought him in March, got him in May but not sure what his actual birthdate is.
