Okay so my two year old female siberian loves to dig in her water bucket when we go to the dog park and then she will go to everyone elses and dig theres to hardly drinking anything, now the puppy does it to. my question is why i thought maybe to cool down in the heat and because dogs dont sweat but i figured the other husky owners might know something different, they also dig inside in there water dish to.

Ruby will dig in water bowls when she feels the need to play. She likes the movement on her feet and she likes to "bite" the wake for fun... she also dunks her face in water up to her eyes and then runs around. Overall, I think that she enjoys playing with it after she's gulped her fill.

She also lives with a Lab, and has determined that getting in the lake with Allie is now a necessity. So to her, water is a plaything, anytime, anywhere, no matter who the bowl belongs to, LOL.

I might add that I live in Iowa, so during the summer it gets disgustingly hot and humid. We have a plastic little pool, and when the girls go outside during the summer, if it's really hot, Ruby will lay down in the water to cool her belly. So I think that digging at water sources could be for fun and to cool off. Just be glad that she's digging at water bowls and not in the yard LOL.

Watching Ruby in the winter snow is FABULOUS. It really shows what a Sibe is capable of. I think that she misses the snow when it disappears...she hides her "stuff" in it, rolls in it, digs in it, chases Allie through it...she wants to live outside during the winter basically. It's a fight to get her to come in when it's snowing. She doesn't mind summer as much, but you can tell she's an Arctic breed.

Growing up I had a Shepherd Lab mix that would do that especially if you put ice cubes in her water dish.
