Our Sibe is OBSESSED with water! Everytime we fill their water bowl, she drinks the entire bowl, then goes searching for more. There was a morning where I refilled the bowl 5 times! It's a large bowl, so I worry that there's something wrong with her, but she's checked out ok at the vet. It's gotten to the point were she has destroyed the yard with holes to let fill with water when it rains and chewed off the end of our washer drain to get to the water inside! Alot of this I've attributed to competition in the house and that she's crazy smart, figuring out that holes hold water! Does anyone have any dogs that do this? Or any suggestions to help?? Or should I go to the vet again?

I thought i read here that there was a name for that, I'll try and find it for you. how long ago did you see the vet and has it gotten worse since then? Did you mention it to the vet when you went?

when you say "checked out ok" did they run bloodwork? is this something new she's doing?

there are lots of different things that can cause dogs to drink a lot of water, from diabetes mellitus or diabetes insipidus to it being behavioral (psychogenic polydipsia). are you able to measure exactly how much she does drink in a day?

We adopted her in December and she went to the vet that same week, I told him that I noticed that, compared to our other dogs, she drinks A LOT of water. He ran some tests, I know he drew blood, and the answer was that there wasn't anything abnormal. It hasn't gotten any worse, it just makes me nervous, so I'm thinking of going back again specifically for the reason. I could measure how much she gets in her mouth, but she also spills quite a bit of what she puts in her mouth.

yes try and measure exactly how much she drinks, there are many medical disorders that can cause this including diabetes. She should have blood work done and a urinalysis.

Since it's been six months since you vetted and mentioned it ... I'd check with the vet again .

Saga drinks water like it is going out of style. Django barely does. On the other hand, Django eats raw and Soggy is a kibble dog. I was alarmed last summer by how little Mr Mango was drinking until I thought about it. Once we got Saga, I got fairly alarmed by how much she was drinking, but she doesn't seem to show any ill effects. From what I have seen of Ms Ruber, she doesn't seem TOO bad. Ilsa drinks more on our going to the store outings than I have seen Ruby drink at the park.

you said you got your siberian from rescue right well sometimes, the previous owner may not have alaways had water there. just like dogs that are scheduled eaters they scarf there food down thats why i free feed. But most sibes really do love water but if you really are ask your vet again like mentioned or Message Oc she has had siberians longer than i have ive only had mine a couple of years but i love the breed and have read everything i can find on them.

Is she obsessed with water year-round or only during warmer months? How often is she excercised and during what parts of the day? Does she have free-access to water at all times, even when crated? Have you checked for diabetes within the last couple weeks? Is this a new habit or something she's done ever since you've adopted her? If you feed kibble, do you add water to it?

My boys drink a considerable amount more in the summer than winter (makes sense, its hot!) however they drink much less water overall if I feed their meals with water added rather than feeding meals "dry". My guys also have fresh clean water available 24/7, even while crated. This could also be a behavioural thing from her previous owners.

Molly drinks at least 4 times as much water as King does, always did. She just had blood work done, since she just turned 9, and everything came back great. King's tests came back "Amazing", showing no signs of aging at all, almost every number was the same as he was 5 years ago, and the ones that weren't are actually closer to ideal.

Together, they still don't approach the water consumption of Gus, my old Pit mix, who probably drooled as much as Molly drinks. I don't know how many times I heard him slurping up water in the middle of the night, "Flup, flup, flup, flup, flup, flup, flup!"
