Since it has been a debate lately about Sex Offenders, you should watch Dr Phil today, I am no huge fan... but the way rules are being applied against teens making a bad choice is startling!:yikes:

It's this "new" trend...teens are taking racy or even nude photos of themselves, many times to send to their SO's. Well, thanks to the viral nature of the internet and phones anymore, many of the pics are being posted on the web, passed around school, etc. Now the people taking the photos are being charged with pornography and in more than a few cases, those in possession of the photos are being charged with possessing child pornography, even though they themselves are of the same age group as the person in the photo.

Lord have mercy...what a completely asinine thing to do to yourself. That will look FABULOUS on a college app...your nude pics that EVERYONE has seen. LOL. How sad that people think they need to be naked for people to pay attention to them.

No doubt it is a stupid choice, but the punishment is way to harsh in my opinion.... Teens have been sneaking peeks since before time, and will always do so... Bad choice (Yes)... deserve to have your life ruined? Nope...

These kids are being put on sex offender registries, for making a mistake and sharing photo's with their BF/GF's....

I really could care less what the punishment is...it'd pale in comparison to what would happen to them at home.
Really?? You think it's ok that a teen who sent a pic to their BF, and mad a bad choice, should be on a National Sex Offender registry and at say 30 years of age, have to report when they move, where they live, and be called/ investigated every time a sex offense happens?

These are perfectly normal kids who let their hormones get away on them, made a stupid choice, and almost all of them will go on to be perfectly normal adults who made a poor choice as a teen!

Ahh teens...they sure don't WANT to be treated "like children"...right up until they get in trouble.

Yet another reason mine won't have a cell or net access til they get a job that pays enough to cover both in full.

This is something I tell people every time you hear "what's the matter with kids" when something like that goes viral. It's not that kids/teens are more daring or more stupid these days, it's just that with easy access to digital photography and the internet, their stupidity is no longer localized to their small group of friends. It's on display for the world to see.

Yes, but a girl who sends a nude pic of herself to her boyfriend shouldn't be treated the same as a rapist.

Ah... actually in this case it would be better if they were treated like kids, instead of child porn swapping adults....

we can agree to disagree. I know I have no control over other people's kids...just my own. The smaller and smaller amts of time parents are spending with kids shows in many ways...this is just one more.

I guess we will have to disagree then, I had a stay at home Mom who spent tons of time with me, and very involved Dad... I became pregnant at 17 and it was NO reflection on my parents. I do not agree that all these kids come from bad homes... Teens make mistakes.. always have.... and I cannot imagine having a mistake like this cost you a normal life... Being registered as a Sex Offender? Way over the top....

I'm a bit shocked that they would accuse kids looking at naked kids pictures of child pornography... it's dumb. Maybe it's time for people to realize that a 16 year old is different than a 6 year old...

But yeah... you'd think they'd look for whoever stole the pictures in the first place, those kids definitely need to be punished for it IMO... not the poor girl who took pictures of herself. Although for the ones who are in possession of the pictures, well, I'm not really feeling sorry for them, what's their business looking at naked pictures of their classmates anyway...

GODS! My mother micromanaged my life. She hounded me, was constantly up my ass, breathing down my neck, listened in on my phone calls, went through my letters and my diaries, was home every day and knew the time to the minute when I should be coming through the door and if I was more than five minutes late she was out looking for me . . .

And look how I turned out :rofl1:

Not a day goes by but she wonders how her values didn't take with me . . . of course, my sister's married to the man who was her boss who she was sleeping with while she was babysitting his kids when he and his wife were gone . . . tacky, tacky, tacky . . . but we don't talk about any of that :wall:

You never know how your kids are going to turn out or what they're going to do or how many of the values that are important to you they're going to reject or how many of your rules they're going to flaunt.

Never let yourself be fooled into thinking you have any sort of control over your kids after they reach *that* age.

Go back and read through Nancy's awful time with her daughter . . . and you couldn't ask for a more involved set of parents who tried to do the right thing than Nancy and her husband.
