Okay, so let me tell you about my day Friday. I know ya'll can apprecaite why I was (am) so pissed. So - I woke up late and was in an all around bad mood - hey, it happens. I go to work, miserable to be there. There's all of these dog calls coming in, more than usual, and it's just breaking my heart more and more with each call. The worst part is I always have to "be" kind and sincere with each call, knowing deep down inside that that dog will probably die in 2 weeks. A sweetheart in our office named Melissa had to be out most of the day but had people coming to pick up grant applications. Each one was different for each division so they literally had to be handed to them to make sure they got the right one then they had to sign for it. She asked if I would hang on to them for her and when they came in give them the one with their department labled on them and have them sign and of course I said yes. (She's such a doll - ya'll would love her). Well, as the day goes on I'm still in the worst mood possible but I managed to hide it pretty well. As most of you know I have 2 foster dogs that we finally decided was ready for adoption, all of that's in another post (http://www.chazhound.com/forums/showthread.php?p=50576#post50576) As all of this was going on I was getting ads ready in my spare time for our foster dogs to advertise them for adoption (which is a very emotional process for any who haven't been through it). I had one laying on my desk that I had already made up that I was going by for the other. At that time this man came in our office and stated he was there for a particular grant application. Now, in the town he was picking one up for, their fire and ambulance is combined so he could use one form for both. He believed he had to have 2 and we kinda went a round until finally I gave up and called Melissa for her to reiterate what I had just told him (I hated to have to interupt her too). Once he FINALLY realized I was right and he was wrong he tried to "explain" his way out of it. I was in no mood to hear why he "had" to make sure, etc, etc, etc. I just wanted to get him out and get back to something a little more calming. Now obviously by that point, with my bad day and all, I'm about to explode but for the sake of my job I have to keep it all under wraps. If all that wasn't bad enough this is what finally gets me. I was expecting him to quietly walk out with his paper in hand still talking under his breath about his "excuses". WRONG!! I came back to my desk (which he had to walk by to leave) and he see's the ad for Cheetah laying there that I had fineshed and was working off of for the other. Now what that was was none of his business if you ask me but he still craned his neck over and said "humph, what's that?" Before I could say anything his eyes got wide and he started "chanting" no-no-no. While he was saying that I interupted him (hoping an answer would make him leave - stupid fat jerkoff!!) but again WRONG!! Anyway, while he was saying "no" I interupted him and said ever so politely and sweetly "Yeah thats our foster dog, she's such a baby. That's an ad for her adpotion." No sooner did I get that out then he said "I don't think so, that's got pit in it" and he made a geasture with his hand like a gun pointing and shooting. Again I about lost it and if I hadn't been at the place that "pays my bills and feeds me" (work) then I probably would have PUNCHED him. The only thing that I could think to do that was still nice - so I didn't get in trouble but show him that I was pissed was to get a very irritated look on my face and shake my head and roll my eyes and say rudly "to each their own!" (I know, not very good...I'm not good at stuff on the spot). He made his geasture again and said "That's my policy on them, that's my adoption for ya!" I done the same thing again - this time more aggrivated than ever! Then he again tried to make "excuses" saying "well, I've never found one I could trust". This time I slammed my work onto my desk - jumped up from my seat (lol - it's an office chair with wheels - it rolled 1/2 way across the room), said it again - keeping calm the entire time but he could def. tell I was pissed then I turned and walked out - ranting and raiving under my breath the entire time, slamming doors, etc. Geez I was so pissed!! If I wasn't such a nice person I would call him every name in the book. I told Melissa never again!! Who on this earth is stupid enough to gesture and insinuate shooting someone elses dog, who has already made known they love, especially after they've already spent the last 15 min. pissing off - he's just aching to get SHOT!! (naw - I'd never shoot someone but I sure wanted to then. Gosh how....ooh I'm so pissed I can't even think of a strong enough word...stupid and ignorant just don't cover it - I mean I was sitting right in front of him, already made it known that I cared for this dog and he pretends to shoot it, BECAUSE SHE'S A PIT MIX!!! What a f@#$*%g (fool, jerk, nincompoop, blockhead, bafoon, butt, dimwit, ignoramous, imbecile, moron...should I go on??) Well, thanks for letting me vent - I feel better about getting it off my chest but I'm still pissed. He better hope and pray that I never see him away from work!! That's MY baby he's talking about!

You showed more control than i could have..i am not sure what would have come out of my mouth. I have no tolerance for people like that at all. Worst part is i believe they enjoy being that way.

I think you did an admirable job of holding your temper, Sweet. Just remember, the worst thing you can possibly do to these people who get off on contradicting everything is to smile at them, then turn your back and return to whatever you were doing, pick up the phone and call someone or ask someone nearby a completely unrelated question. They just can't stand being ignored, lol!

One of my favorite answers to them - right before I ignore them - is "a wise person once told me never to argue with a stupid person." :D

You did very well holding your temper. I would have been raving mad just like you were (are). I cannot stand ignorant people such as that. He really showed his true intellgence of dogs when he made that gesture. What kind of an idiot says that anyway? There is a guy here that I work with that goos and ahhhs over his kids but he always says dogs are stupid when I talk about my dog. Luckily my boss is a huge dog lover and so is the other girl we work with so we always gang up on him. It really annoys me that he does that. I don't say that when he talks about his kids.

{{{Hugs}}} There's no point arguing with some people!! I think they do it because they are either bored or lonely! Even arguing with someone is better than having no human contact at all! You have to feel sorry for people like that! Plus he will never have the very loyal love that you get from Pits!!

I'm sorry you had to go through that, especially from your own father!

Congrats to you for showing restraint when dealing with an idiot like this. I don't think I could have stayed as long as you did before walking out.

My dad's not much of a dog person....But, that's okay, because I know all you wonderful people, who know that Pit Bulls are just as much pets as any dog; I don't need for him to like them. He'll just have to miss out on what we've got!!!

Luckly, all of my reletives are halfway quiet when it comes to the Pitties and such. Most of them probably think they are evil dogs, but they don't voice it. (Good thing too or I'd be jumping down their throats with a chainsaw. lol) But I do have one reletive that sides with me when it comes to Pits. She is my Aunt (and she is old enough to be my grandma) and she said that the Pitties aren't bad. She knew one that was a complete pussy cat. But it was just funny to me because this old lady was siding with me that Pitties aren't evil and normally old people (don't want to offend anybody, sorry if I did) are pretty set in their ways.

People like that are just missing out on meeting a wonderful breed.

My dad isn't much of a pitbull person....after lecturing him on the breed and making him watch a little video on them, he likes them a bit more, but he's still not a huge fan. Tell me what is aggressive about a dog giving you kisses, or cuddling up to you? Last September, I met a great pitbull in a veterinarian clinic.....that dog didn't do anything but give me a lick on the chin. Wow, I'm really scared. That dog bit me.

It is annoying, the shot from the guy. And his judgement against certain breeds. What's more annoying was his invasiveness... Looking over at your work and feeling like he could comment. I think it would have been really hard for me to not say, "Shut up cussword! Do I look at your work and make rude comments?"

It's hard for so many people to take each pit bull as they come. There are horrifying people out there who take their pit bulls to dog parks to learn to fight. There are people out there who breed them to be fighters. We all know the stories, and these people ruin it for the teddy bear pit bulls.

No one hears about the pit bull who is hanging out in loyal fashion in a house full of other mixed breeds all gettin' along fine. Does the newspaper run a story on a the large number of pit bulls who live with kids, cats, dogs, etc.? No, we only hear about the euthanized dogs, the occasional attacks, etc. Do we hear about attacks from other breeds? Maybe other breeds that were used to create the bull... it makes headlines.

I don't have a pit bull, our dog is a pointer/border collie/?. It's bad enough being "told" about the breeds we have in our dog by perfect strangers. And, they are not labled breeds generally. Growing up with a doberman, I am empathetic to the problems pit bull lovers face. Our dobe was obviously aggressive because she was breathing! (That's why she was being walked by an 8 year old!)

Anyway, my point here is ... you were right in expressing yourself the best way you could. He was invading your space, and being overly annoying.

Are there any pamphlets out there on pit bulls for people to have?

All of this reminds me of a picture I saw a few years ago. At the time I thought it was cute and meant a lot but I didn't realize how important it was to keep it, now I wish I had saved the link or something - I've tried ever since to find it again but no luck. I was on some animal web site, on the left there was a link that said something to the effect of "beware, graphig image of (pit, boxer...I can't remember the breed but it was one of those) eating a child...etc, etc, click only if you have a strong stomach...) Me being of the curious nature - knowing good and well that I shouldn't click it because if it was what it said it was I would be horrified and very disturbed but I did it anyway. It came to a screen that said loading...it only took a few seconds but those few seconds of anticipation seemed like a lifetime. Once the picture finally came up it was of a very sweet & small child (toddler size) sitting ever so sweetly on a step with a huge dog, twice it's size, sitting next to it...licking the side of it's head with a tounge the size of it's head. The hidden message was so stong and meant so much - man I wish I had saved it!! I think during my lunch I'll try to find it again. You all would love to see that.
