Our Rocket has cried out in pain several times in the past two days. If she jumps up into hubby's durango she cries. She ran up the steps she cried. She crawled from under the porch in the backyard and she yelped.
She is not limping and can still run around, but has not been near as active. We are hoping for just a pulled muscle or something that will heal.
The Dr. tried to manipulate her hips/legs and Rocket was very tense and the Dr. couldn't tell much from that.

So she is being put under anesthesia so she can be manipulated without tense muscles and also being xrayed.
The Dr. gave me the choice of putting her on meds for a week and seeing if it got better... then xrays if it didn't. OR Going ahead with the xrays tomorrow... I chose the xrays tomorrow and the vet felt that best too. I need to know about her hips anyway since she is a working dog.

Anyway I know Chaz members will send good healing vibes to Rocket and some hope for good news! You all are a great "support group" ;) .
Will update when I get some news....
Julie.

Thank you. I felt terrible leaving her there tonight, but I couldn't be there by 8am tomorrow, so that was the only other choice. :(

I would guess its a pulled muscle or something, it seems to be going around. A friend of mine had that happen to his dog, he had lots of work done and could determine nothing, set him back about 7 months in training till it worked itself out. Still nobody is certain what was wrong other than a "pulled" muscle.

It happens to my bitch sometimes too. Her hips are great and she can run her butt off, full speed, stop, cut climb etc, but hoping onto her "chair" or into our van will produce a yelp. Usually a few days of no jumping and all is well again. She's well muscled, and in good shape with good hips.

Didn't you just have a recert, or competition with her? did her training get more intense or do more jumping for that than usual? Could have just over done it, hopefully that's all. Everyone could use a little break now an again. Good luck.

Oh I hope they find nothing wrong!. And we did just have a recert and was somewhat more intense than a normal week, but she showed no signs of pain until about two weeks after that. And this yelp just started the day before yesterday. She is well muscled too and can run like the wind...hence her name Rocket...... (the kids named her)

Thanks Everyone,
Julie.

Ahh something else I found "normal". I took Rocket to a different vet, but the same one I use for my Labs....cause they are great! But anyway the receptionist was asking me all kinds of questions, and as soon as I mentioned she is a GSD, she asked me if "she should be cautioned"... well I got it and said NO she is fine, and has a great temperament and only bites "bad guys"....she apparently found no humor in that and put a big orange caution sticker on Rockets folder. Needless to say, the vet and techs found her temperament wonderful. Lol.

I just received a call from the vets office. She is just waking up from anesthesia and I can go get her in a little while. The vet will go over the xrays with me when I get there.

Rockets xrays came back normal and the vet said her hips look good. :D
We still do not know why she is yelping. She is to take some anti-inflamatory drugs for the next 10 days, and try to take it easy. Hopefully she gets better within that time.
So far that's good news!

Julie.
