So, I think my cat is not normal. :lol-sign:

Tiki is about 5 1/2 years old. Had him ever since he was born. He can be an odd ball at times LOL But he's still a frisky, playful cat.

However, he will NOT eat canned food. I've tried many different kinds and he won't touch it. I've also tried giving him some tuna... he won't touch that either. I know it's better for cats to eat canned food with the added moisture and it doesn't contain the ash & magnesium that some dry foods carry. Have any of you experienced this with your kitties?

I'm also looking into getting him a different dry food. I feed him a very small scoop 2-3 times a day. He used to eat Kirkland Cat Food from Costco (no corn and by products) and did fine. Since I moved him up here with me, I decided to try Organix. He's been on it for about a month-month and a half now and about 3 weeks after I started to feed him this he has developed diarrhea. I've experienced this before when my mom and I put our cats on Blue Buffalo, they just didn't do well on it. I know some cats are like that where they just won't do well on certain foods.

Do you guys have any suggestions on foods that would be good? I noticed that Wal Mart carries a food called EVOLVE that has no corn, by products, soy etc. But I've never heard of it before and wondered if anyone else has. Since he won't eat canned food, I want to be sure I get a dry food that's not going to give him any urinary problems as I've already seemed to be experiencing that just recently. He was using the box... a lot... so I have started giving him cranberry supplement & almost done with some antibiotics.

If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Where we're stationed, there are NO pet stores around here (well there's one but they sell puppies and I'm not much for those kinds of pet stores). It's about an hour drive just to get to PetSmart, PetCo, Pet Supermarket, etc. The commissary and PX actually carry a fairly decent range of foods but not a lot to choose from. But, I've found that the Organix isn't agreeing with him.

My cat won't touch wet food. My cat has to eat Halo (turkey for sensitive stomachs). I don't know if that's available by you or not.

I used to feed California Natural until my cat developed stomach issues.

I searched for info on Evolve sold at Walmart and seem to find conflicting info. Some say it's not the same formula as the Evolve sold at pet stores. I'm not sure about this food.

What brands can you buy at the PX? If you have to go to one of those pet stores to get a quality food for your cat, I would do it; I wouldn't give anything but a good quality food to my pets.

Have you tried raw? Or letting his dry food soak in some water? Both would be alternatives to canned food that would still raise the moisture content.

Your cat's not weird. Well, no weirder than any other cats. Cats are notoriously difficult and picky animals. I've been fortunate in that all of mine will eat absolutely anything. Most of my customers complain about their picky cats and how they just won't eat anything.

If you end up having to make the long drive to a pet supply store, you could always just buy a larger quantity and cut your trip down to once every couple of months or so.

My only suggestion is to keep trying as many different brands and flavors as your budget allows. For years, one of my cats would only eat a single flavor of a single brand -- and that only in the tiny 2 or 3 ounce can, NOT the same flavor/brand in the larger 5 or 6 ounce can. She's slowly expanded her acceptable canned food universe over the years but it was a pain to hit on what she liked in the first place.

I think I remember seeing that cat food at Walmart, and looked at it. To me, it looked just fine. Definitely good for a grocery store food. I remember wanting to see if they had a dog version (for Boyfriend to buy his dog - doesn't matter now because I buy her food LOL), but they didn't.

If you have a TSC around, I feed 4Health. Decent food for a good price.

Mine will occasionally eat wet food, but really, they prefer dry. So, I just offer them a high quality dry, and so far, they are OK. Mine eat ZiwiPeak.

I haven't tried raw. I would need to do some research on that first as I don't know how raw feeding actually works but I really don't know if he would eat it. And actually I didn't think about having his food soaked in water --- probably one of the most obvious things I can do (duh ) lol I have tried mixing a little bit of canned with his dry and he wouldn't touch it.

Thanks for the input everyone. If I have to I would definitely make the hour trip, and just buying a slightly larger bag to last me longer. I'm all for keeping him on a good quality food. I've fed lower grade food before I knew all I did about the better quality foods and I definitely can tell the difference. My mom and I even fed our fosters our own food because the rescue used to feed Science Diet and they would provide us a bag. But we never used it.

I just haven't been used to a kitty who won't eat wet food. All my other cats I had went nuts over it... & I guess I never noticed that he didn't get in on the treat. I gave him some salmon one night... and he ate that with no problem. Maybe he's taken after me since I don't like tuna either, but I'll eat salmon. haha :)

Well I guess I will just keep trying different cans. I try to just get like 2 cans, each a different flavor. But will also try soaking his food in some water and see if he will accept that.

I'm gunna look into the ZiwiPeak... can you buy it at a pet supply store? I'm also gunna look into the feed store we have -- they carry all high end dog foods and I believe I saw some food for cats.

*blackrose -- I did the same thing actually when I first saw it at Wal Mart, but didn't see anything for dog food. The 3lb bag was only $5 which I was surprised when I looked at the ingredients. I paid $17 for a 5lb bag at the commissary.

Thanks again guys :) Just want to keep my kitty happy! I think he's enjoying the "single cat" life. He's always been a momma's boy & never one to play with the other cats we had.

I'm not sure, I have only seen it on line personally, but our pet shops are not very good at stocking food here.

You can buy it online here
http://www.ziwipeak.com/
and probably look for a list of stockists too.
