Puppy Meet Up!

We had such a great time this evening with Fable's puppies. Four of them were able to make it (one more than we expected!), 2 of which I had never met and Fable hadn't seen since they were adopted. One of them is super fluffy and has a curly tail and one of them is "full-sized", meaning he doesn't have short little corgi legs. I just think it's fascinating how different they all look, yet they all look like Fable to some degree. The biggest one is larger than Fable at 49 pounds and the smallest one is about 30. They look like a bunch of misfits but you can totally tell they are all related. It's such an interesting little group of dogs and they all have the sweetest personalities.

So Ajax is the fluffy one, Tolstoy is the white one with a little black spot on his face, Athena is the white and brown one, and Gambit is the "full-size" one with the black sleeve on his front leg.

Right?! Totally this. But they're all adorable. You're totally right, you can tell they're related even though they're all so different, in an odd way. That's so cool you get to see them all.

Tell us more about how they interacted
I'm always curious about dog's concept of "siblings" or "offspring".

Was there an obvious difference in how Fable treated her pups than other dogs?

 

[Annabell]

I honestly think that they do know that they're litter mates and that Fable is their mom. We were at a very crowded dog park and they all just ignored the other dogs that were there and stayed together in one adorable group. And Fable is a lot nicer to them than she is to other dogs (although she's never mean), so that says something as well.

I see Tolstoy a lot and have gotten to know him pretty well, and I've noticed that he tends to not really care about other dogs at all. But when he saw his siblings he got super excited and started wrestling and playing with Ajax, and he always solicits attention from Fable. And the very first time Fable met Tolstoy after they were adopted, he actually tried to nurse from Fable. She quickly told him off, but it was an indicator to us that he probably remembered her.

I would really love to know if they actually do know remember each other, or if all of this is silly and merely for the humans' benefit. Either way it was adorable and everyone had a blast!
