On Monday we got a puppy from our neighbour who found it had been dumped in her front yard. He is between 6-8 weeks old. He is mixed breed of mountain dog. Since we have gotten him we are having hard time. How do we stop him from roaming around the house at night? Also How do we stop him from bting our hands and feet?

You need a crate or some other way to confine. A puppy roaming around who can't hold their bladder is endless issues waiting to happen.

I agree with mafiaprincess you need to get him a crate.
Or if you have a small room like a utility room you could put him in there at night. Just make sure he's comfortable and has newspaper etc. and also make sure there is nothing in there that could harm him. Thats were we keep our dog at night.

But if you do get him a crate heres some advice:
If he's ever bold dont send him into his crate as a punishment because then he will think of the crate as a bad place to be and when you put him in it a night he will think he's done something wrong. It should be his safe place to go and make it so that he enjoys being in it.

As for the biting of fingers and toes its just his way of playing. Just try to ignore it and encourage him to play with his toys more.

Good luck with your new puppy x

You need to get that pup a crate. Alot of people think it cruel, which is SO wrong. Dogs are den animals, and the crate is like their den. I prefer the plastic molded crate, where they can't see out of much. It makes it alot darker in there, and it simulates a den better.

A pup should not be allowed full run of the house. I have no idea how long you've had him, but a pup should EARN his freedom. My last puppy, Jaylie, was just starting to earn her freedom to sleep out of the crate, at nine months. My new puppy, is already starting right now, at fourteen weeks. Does your puppy do anything destructive at night, when he's roaming? If he does, then he hasn't earned that freedom. If he doesn't, then I suggest putting him into a small bedroom or better yet, your bedroom with the door shut. This way he's with you, AND he can't roam around the house. This is what I always do with my pups...First the crate, then on a tie down in my room, (I do this as soon as they're house-trained.) then roaming in my room, (I actually just did this with my fourteen week old...He did perfect! He tore apart one of his stuffed animals, but other than that nothing.) and THEN roaming in the house. Blitz is the kind of guy that if no one is around doing things, then he'll go to sleep. So, he slept most of the night last night...He just didn't fall asleep as quick as I did and didn't wake up as fast.

He needs to be kept in a crate when you are not able to supervise his play or at night. I did that with all my dogs and that is their home. They know which one is theirs and they go into it on their own.

Thanks for the advice. We have had him since Monday of last week. He has since stopped the roaming around the house. He sleeps on his blanket beside the door of kitchen leading outside.
