I called the lab to check on how things were going with Jay's necropsy. Cause of death is already known.
Jay had sustained a small nip to the side of the head which caused an infected abscess that pushed on his brain and caused a secondary bacterial infection in his brain and spinal cord.
Cause of death, not genetic, not contagious, but that doesn't make it any easier.

That is very sad. :( Glad to hear that the necropsy was revealing. Tough loss no matter the cause, but I'm sure it is a relief on some level to know it is not genetic. I'm sorry for your loss. How is Lark taking it?

Poor little guy. Heartbreaking. I'm glad they were able to find an answer although I know it doesn't make it any easier.

Lots of great things today,

First off lets all wish Hawkeye a happy 7th birthday!

Second, all puppies and Hawk and Lark got their eye exams today and all were clear!

Third, Wren left to go to her new home today, I visited for a while.
They have been a great couple, they live only about a mile away from me and they came out before puppies arrived and then visited another 4 times to watch them grow. I told them a few weeks ago that I felt Wren was the best match for their lifestyle and they were very happy to open their home to her. I will be seeing her grow up and she will be attending training classes with her brother(my keeper, Solo)

And lastly but not least! After applying 5 months ago I received this in the mail today! It is now Official!

Congrats on eye exams, your kennel registration and Wren's new home, and happy birthday to Hawkeye! It has been so neat watching this whole process from conception to new homes and it's really awesome that you were willing to share this all with us.

And I can't wait to watch Solo grow. He was my favorite from the very beginning. :D

Wow, lots of exciting things happening! Glad all their eyes are clear.

Speaking of Wren "being the best fit" sparked my curiousity. How would you describe your pups personalities? We just see how insanely cute they are, but I personally would love to know more about how they act! Who is the feisty one? The cuddler? Etc. etc.?

Went to visit Wren today, now named Bess. She is doing great, the new owners said she has not once in the three days she has been there had an accident in the house and whines to go outside. She also sleeps thru the night. They have been teaching her "sit" and just generally enjoying her. She will be starting puppy classes next month at the local kennel club with Solo and I.

I'll cover each pup separately

Bess(Wren):
About half the drive and energy of her sisters,
Very mellow when being handled by strangers,
More interested in being with humans than other dogs,
Playful with people but generally disinterested in children but willing to accept them picking her up and petting her.

Nyx(Raven):
Very food driven,
A little nut when running around,
LOVES playing with other dogs more than people,
Very handler sensitive,
very mouthy, put in mouth first ask questions later.
Likes to nibble on children but not interested in being affectionate with them.

Owl:
Loves cuddling with people
Also very driven for food,
Very interested in children, likes to follow them around and sit in their laps.
Enjoys barking at things
very fearless, will walk in a room like she owns the place.

Solo(Martin):
Very affectionate with people and loves to wrestle with his sisters,
Very tug driven,
Is more cautious than his sisters in new situations and with new objects,
Likes to bark at things,
Generally disinterested in children but willing to accept them picking him up and petting them,
If he grabs your hair or pant leg he will go to town with tugging.
