I came home from college a few days ago, and I've been having 2~3 hour training sessions with Lancer per day on his old commands and new ones (sit, down, stand, perch for photos, strict stays, and random tricks) with physical cues and voice... continued from December. Even just in the past few days in that short amount of time, his trust/stability in me has grown immensely, even compared to before?
He was so fear-reactive on streets, of cars, bikes, joggers, even birds, basically anything that moves just a year ago. Even last summer, he was still fearful of bikers in particular and cars that drove too close. Today, I brought him out onto the streets like this for only the 2nd time since coming home, and he is now perfect and stable as heck.
Just focused on me and those commands 100%- sat patiently at the stop light as cars flew by? Yesterday, a reactive GSD barked like mad at us from across the street (like 20 yards away), on a leash, and Lancer only whimpered a little and kept his chill. (IT'S HONESTLY AMAZING FOR LANCER) Didn't give a moving bike a couple feet away even a second glance.
His sense of security relies a lot on trust and confidence in his handler, AND I REALLY CONSIDER THIS A BIG SUCCESS. 8__8 I guess I have been deemed big and strong. bahaha hilarious.
So we went out and took a few photos. What he looks like today. Some parts of his fur is still awkwardly permanent baby fur.
I tried to stack him, but... actually just standing. LOL
Lancer actually decided to run up to the edge of the hill and sit and stare into the distance himself, not by command. I wonder what he was thinking LOL.
The wind literally blowing his flappy ears everywhere.
I'm also super proud of his off-leash abilities. He's very handler-focused with a perfect recall back to "leash!" and practically sticks his chin out for me to put his collar back on. LOL
