Kinda gushed on facebook, now extended gush here.

I came home from college a few days ago, and I've been having 2~3 hour training sessions with Lancer per day on his old commands and new ones (sit, down, stand, perch for photos, strict stays, and random tricks) with physical cues and voice... continued from December. Even just in the past few days in that short amount of time, his trust/stability in me has grown immensely, even compared to before?

He was so fear-reactive on streets, of cars, bikes, joggers, even birds, basically anything that moves just a year ago. Even last summer, he was still fearful of bikers in particular and cars that drove too close. Today, I brought him out onto the streets like this for only the 2nd time since coming home, and he is now perfect and stable as heck.

Just focused on me and those commands 100%- sat patiently at the stop light as cars flew by? Yesterday, a reactive GSD barked like mad at us from across the street (like 20 yards away), on a leash, and Lancer only whimpered a little and kept his chill. (IT'S HONESTLY AMAZING FOR LANCER) Didn't give a moving bike a couple feet away even a second glance.

His sense of security relies a lot on trust and confidence in his handler, AND I REALLY CONSIDER THIS A BIG SUCCESS. 8__8 I guess I have been deemed big and strong. bahaha hilarious.

So we went out and took a few photos. What he looks like today. Some parts of his fur is still awkwardly permanent baby fur.

I tried to stack him, but... actually just standing. LOL

Lancer actually decided to run up to the edge of the hill and sit and stare into the distance himself, not by command. I wonder what he was thinking LOL.

The wind literally blowing his flappy ears everywhere.

I'm also super proud of his off-leash abilities. He's very handler-focused with a perfect recall back to "leash!" and practically sticks his chin out for me to put his collar back on. LOL

Yay Lancer! It's my absolute favorite thing when I have breakthroughs in training with Fable.

He's such a cutie and that's an awesome view you've got there.

YAHOO. ;; Pretty much- overcoming behavioral issues is very rewarding, I think.

And yep, it's a nice and empty park/open area above my community. Nobody is ever there except for the occasional walking grandma or a couple kids on the weekends.

That's great! Congrats on how far he's come! He looks like a very sweet boy.
That's great news. Congratulations! Gorgeous pics of the lovely boy. :)
Thank you! Sweet in a knock-you-over-and-drown-your-face-in-licks kind of way.

Wow! That must make you pleased as punch to see such huge milestones. What made him so fearful and shy before? Is that just his temperament or did something happen to him? At any rate, you've done splendidly him to help him over come all that. He's turned into a wonderful pal and what a gorgeous coat! Enjoyed the photos!

It is very pleasing and rewarding and everything like that, yes!

When he was around 12 weeks old, my mom was walking him in the neighborhood with Rara and this crazy neighborhood Airedale started lunging and barking like mad at him from across the street. He didn't get hurt or anything, but it frightened him so much that he peed himself then.
I was at school and only came home once every couple weeks during his entire puppy/growth period, so I didn't have control over his training and experiences... my mom decided to bring him to the DOG PARK at 4 months old. :\ Needless to say, a mob of 15 or so dogs decided to hound him, barking and all? My mom had to rush in and pick him up, and even then, the dogs were jumping up on my mom. Scary, but Lancer didn't get hurt or anything. But those experiences alone caused him a potential lifetime of fearfulness. His breeder flipped out over the phone at my mom (and so did I) for good reason.

I also believe that it's genetic at the root though- how he bounces back from negative experiences... which he does not do well at all, so he's prone to fear. He's still hyper sensitive to all experiences, both positive and negative. So training him with his issues is very precarious, but rewarding.

(that was one long reply ahaaaah)

And thanks much! :'D He has an oddly puppy-like coat.
