Oh, and the Miss B-Haven Doodle site does give buyers breeding rights if they want to purchase them:

Q: Do you require your dogs to be spayed or neutered?

A: Yes,, Our puppies will are sold with spay neuter contracts. Breeding rights may be purchased at an additional price. This is to protect the health of the dog, this is simply medical, if you do not plan on breeding your dog, it is ALWAYS BEST to have them altered, especially for the females, when females go through heat cycles with out having puppies, it greatly increases their chances of cancer.

Sadly our local HM is now charging more for the " designer " breeds . A mutt used to be one price , but some are now $400-$500 . Sad !!

That's sad, Grammy. :( Maybe it'll get them more money to save the dogs they have, but methinks it'll just turn people to BYBers and puppymillers, like some of the people in here have. *sigh*

Yes , it's to bring in more money but it's a shame that so many " designer " pups are there . A Golden/Poodle was actually up for auction at a recent Down Syndrome function .... they had their choice of 3 . Luckily the winners were good folks , but what happened to the other 2 . ??

Exactly. Then there'll be even more homeless dogs because a good deal of the byb dogs end up in shelters. That's often why a lot of purebred dog rescues are full. Because those dogs were not bred by reputable breeders or they wouldn't be in shelters. Reputable breeders don't sell their pups to just anyone and they take back unwanted dogs any time during their life. Back yard bred and millers pups often have poor temperaments because of the lack of knowledge or care of the people who produce them. That's another reason many end up in shelters. But there are tons of good mixed breed dogs, adults and puppies in shelters. It's illogical to think you can't find a good mixed breed dog, something to fit just right from a shelter of some sort. The numbers are astronomically high to make the odds of finding just the right dog anything close to slim.

There is no room for breeding strictly for pets. Outstanding dogs should be bred for a purpose whether for work or show. Breeding a hobby, not a money-making business you seem to approve of. The only reason to breed is to better the breed for a purpose. When there are millions of dogs being put to sleep, dogs simply bred for pet quality hurt the canine race rather than help.
75% of the dogs in shelters are mixed breeds, many of which are the same poodle mixes that people are pumping out for insane prices. It's just a fad and nothing more. -
Reputable breeders just don't find dogs and breed them together then try to sell them. They choose dogs that fullfill their purpose and work with their dogs to be an outstanding canine citizens with proper structural health and do all the testing possible and needed- and a responsible breeder has a waiting list before breeding instead of just breeding them and hastily trying to find them homes after they're born.
People think that we're mutt-haters and what have you, and that is entirely untrue. Most of my dogs have been mutts and I don't love them any less than a purebred, but breeding them as pets then selling them as some special breed is not only irresponsible but highly deceiving to the one buying a puppy.
Designer dogs are mutts- and of no less value or deserving of love than a purebred, but the same mixes are in shelters at the same time as they are being bred and sold for ridiculous costs.
Plus, when you are breeding "doodles" and "poos" there no guarantee of them not affecting allergy sufferers. Some of them will inherit the coat of one breed and some of another, some of them will shed like crazy and sometimes none of them have a poodle coat. There are many purebred breeds that are great alternatives for people with allergies, and poodles come in three sizes.
Your pup is adorable, and I wish him a long and happy life with you, and I hope if you get another dog you go to a shelter or a reputable breeder.

Unless you are furthering the breed you have no business breeding!

No, it does not apply to humans. Human babies don't get euthanized by the millions ;).
The 143 million orphaned children in this world disagree with you. Again, do you go around telling your friends not to have children unless they are of premium pedigree and bred to further the race?

The smugness in this forum is so thick, you could step in it.

People who love dogs don't breed them for profit. Dogs give everything they have to their owners, they shouldn't be viewed as money machines.

Breeders who breed mixed breed dogs have no true goal in sight. No set of standards to go off of and no way to show their stock. In essence, they are breeding blindly and in a vacuum for no reason other than money. To me, this is sad.

Responsible, ethical breeders usually lose money when they breed a litter because of all the time, effort, testing and entry fees that are behind that litter.

To me, it's not about supply and demand. It's about the dogs. It's about truly caring about what is good for dogs. Breeding the life out of them because they can make a buck and because it's the "popular" fad right now is truly heartless to say the least.

I guess that's just me not viewing dogs as as a piece of merchandise and believing that breeding should only be done as a hobby and out of genuine interest in a breed with a goal in mind to preserve a breed and NOT to fill one's pocket!!!

Oh goodness me Travisk.

Humans and dogs are not the same. Yes, but those orphaned children are getting plenty of help. They are not getting death needles prodded into them, nor getting thrown in gas chambers where they suffocate to death.

I'm not saying they aren't suffering, don't get me wrong. But that is a whole different subject.

Of course I don't go around telling my friends not to have babies. Heck, none of my friends are having babies. 15 year olds don't have babies here ;).

Its been my understanding that mixed breeds have less health problems than pure breeds. Not sure where I got that from, it just seems like a common knowledge around here.
*snorts* :p

Buddy- my loveable mutt. Overall cost of healthcare since we brought him home on December 23rd 2006: well over $5000.00. He's been sick since day one.

Bella- my loveable purebred. Overall cost of healthcare since we brought her home this February: roughly $700, which includes three series of shots and a trip to a specialist as she is blind in one eye.

I just blew that theory out of the water.

ETA: This was not meant to come across as rude...I've heard this before and I've always found it odd is all. :)

If you are so concerned with the 143 million homeless children in this world then why didn't you adopt one of them instead spending $2,200 on a MUTT! Or donate your 2,200 to a foster home! *Good grief* Oh, and just for the record there are plenty of people who shouldn't be parents just as some dogs shouldn't be bred!

Travisk, now that I have read through your comments and posts it seems that you are only here to get a rise out of people or "irk" them as you said. Your comments and reasoning have been ridiculous................

You people need to quit being ridiculous on this forum. The guy came here to share pics of his new puppy, not listen to how yall think he should have adopted a homeless puppy. He wanted a specific breed so he got one! SO FREAKIN WHAT!?!?!?!?!

I understand there are millions of homeless puppies that need homes, but all of them cant be saved. And before yall go jumping on me, yes I got my dog from a shelter......but I didnt have a specific dog in mind, I just wanted one. I dont even have a clue what he is and not even the vet can tell me for sure.

I think I will see my way out of this forum. All yall do is criticize people because they dont do things according to what yall think. Like the other topic where I am getting grilled for being an animal abuser because I spank my dog and teach him right from wrong. People dont always come here to get snotty opinions from you people, let people share their dog pictures or whatever and if you dont like it, go ahead and inform yourself that NOBODY CARES.....and above all SHUT UP!

But on a serious note, I do think you accomplish more without immediately bashing and looking down your nose at a new person and their beloved puppy. I believe it's called being polite.

Funny how people can preach positive interaction with their dogs, but be so quick to forget the concept when dealing with people.
