So what are you drawn to aesthetically with dogs?

I am completely drawn to lean, muscled long legged dogs. Just love them and pretty much the reason that I can't stop drooling at sighthounds.

Also really really like fringe

And especially on up ears

And I really love large ears and merle

Any combination of these I just adore. Gotta say, there are days I really kinda want to make a KooliexWhippet lurcher

So, what are your favorite attributes look wise?

I love big, up-right ears. The more the dog looks like a bat, the better. I also love a big, square, powerful looking head. The flatter the top of the head, the better. Sometimes i like a moving table :)

bat ears and pointy faces. red. lean and muscular, not bulky.

if i were picking on looks alone, i'd be picking a pharoah hound or an ibizan hound.

I looooove tippy ears, and lean, muscular builds - Aeri doesn't have tippy ears but I think she is just gorgeous.

I take a lot of pride in how conditioned my dogs are - nothing quite like seeing those muscles flexing as they run or right after a swim when they are all slick with water! :D

I'm a sucker for eyes and expression. Intelligent, curious eyes get me every time. If you add in some slight forehead wrinkles and eyebrows that go up and down as the dog looks left and right, I'm a gonner.

Oh gosh, where do I begin...

In general, I really like the look of lean dogs. If the dog is lean, I probably like it. I also usually don't like short faced breeds, and then I think about Boxers, Boston Terriers, and Izzie, and I change my mind.

I like fringe, full out huge coat, short coated, and anything in between.

I can't even list my favorite breeds are look wise, there are way too many. I like Almost all spaniels, Koolies, Kelpies, English Shepherds, sight hounds, Plott Hounds, basset hounds, Pyrenian shepherds, golden retrievers, labs, Pit bulls, and sooooo many more

I tend to like moderate dogs. I can appreciate the extremes but they don't appeal to me. So mid-ish size, trim, well angulated but not overdone, coated (all-weather) but not overly so. Basically your roll-out-of-bed-and-do-anything , regardless of weather, location, etc., sort of build.

For pure aesthetics I do prefer a nice trim face and a bit of fringe (not overdone). Tipped ears are my fave but it doesn't really matter so long as they fit the dog (Web's ears fit his bigger-than-life personality so it works lol). Also prefer my dogs to have all their bits...tail, ears, etc. I would miss my coffeetable sweeps.

Expression and being able to see those wheels turning behind the eyes, a short coat or minimal fringe. NO long haired fuzzy dogs for me. And I will admit I am huge on the pattern/coloring. The louder the better. LOL

Lol Linds I'm so with you on the sighthounds, leggy and muscular with a big tuck and prick ears. I like reddish brindles. Here are some dogs I love the look of:

Bullygrey (I love the body):

BigGameHoundsmen.com • View topic - Anyone ever built a dog swim tank? (user RodB)

Africanis (body + coat!!!!!!!)

Michael Stevenson - Daniel Naud

Some sort of coursing mix (I'd prefer natural prick ears but what a beautiful head and neck! They look powerful but like they fit on a nice leggy body)

Longdog-Blog (sadly she is deceased) :(

A greyhound

greyhound adoption: keisha Female Red

(OK I'll stop now lolol)

I also like APBTs, Dogo Argentions, Ambulls and especially Presas when they are built properly!!! I love this dog, never found out who s/he was.

I also Rhodesian Ridgebacks and Kangals are good looking dogs but I won't clutter the thread anymore :p

If I could make a dog right now it would be merle, built like a whippet, pricked eared with fringe.

I had a dream years and years ago where I was putting two dogs into a DVD player and it was spitting out puppies of those mixes. I always think back to that when picking and choosing traits I like

BullyxSighthound lurchers make me drool.

Mine would have the head and neck of the fawn lurcher, only with prick ears, and a body intermediate between the Africanis and the Bullygrey. And it would have the coloring of the Africanis, though with less mask and a fawnish-colored head.

lol I have too much spare time.

I loooove prick ears, the bigger the better! Delicate head, but I also love the big heads lol. I love me a fit dog too, I honestly drool over *every* fit dog. I love big tucks too, but who here loves fat dogs? LOL.

I really like the way Mals are built. Something shaped like that, slightly smaller/finer frame would be perfect. Oh, and with an off switch LOL.

Either a super short coat or a all out poofy coat OR something in the middle. The only thing that sucks about the poof coat is that you don't get to see the tuck and fitness of the dog plus the heat here would be unbearable. So I guess anywhere from super short to mid length? And the more fringe the better! :D

Colors: GSD/Mal colors, red or grey merle (with white), brindle, anything "loud" really. But I also drool over solids/tris too. I really like dogs that have alot of red, the deeper the red the better.

My dream dog (atm, it changes daily) would be a dog that looks similar to Cricket and has a crazy amount of drive/focus/energy.
Can you tell I reccently saw a pup that looked *just* like a younger Cricket? LOL. It was at Petsmart and made me sad. I want a puppeh lol.

And for a smaller dog, I've been drooling over these:

Cirneco dell'Etna

In my opinion I think the Borzoi is the most beautiful breed. I mean come on, these dogs are right out of a painting.

Oddly enough though, they aren't usually what I go for. Other hairy sighthounds, like Afghans, do next to nothing for me. I think that something BC-ish is what I'm usually drawn to. Fringe but not a super heavy coat, Irish marked, athletic looking and just the right size. I love tris (both red and black) but the classic B&W is just so ... classy, LOL. Even though I don't prefer it in English Shepherds I think it's great on a BC. Love the temperament side of it too which I'm sure sways my opinion. Quinn is very close to my ideal - I just wish English Shepherds came in BC size. If I really wanted to be nitpicky I'd wish she was a different color but I suppose the orange has grown on me! ETA: I also wonder if it's going to be hard for me to find another English Shepherd that can be as serious and work as hard as Quinn. I obsessed over a picture of a dog for months (just a beautiful dog, my "ideal" male ES), watched a video of him at an agility trial and went "REALLY?!". He was sooo low drive, just doofy and loping/bouncing all over the place. While he's still a beautiful dog I'm not so keen on him anymore, LOL.

I'm a stickler for structure. Front end, back end, top line, etc.

I love seeing muscles, I do love clean lines and prick ears. The dog must exude some power and presence but also share some comedy.

Expressions are a must, absolute, I can't fancy a dog with a quiet face.

I love the look of long smooth coats such as Briards, Tervs, Afghan hounds, etc but I couldn't handle them.

Really my ideal dog look would be this...

However my realistic dog is far less coated.

I do really like the look of a wiry coat on a big dog, like an Irish Wolfhound or a German Wirehaired Pointer. But overall I prefer a shortish coat and a muscular build. Many of the pointing breeds or larger hounds are my cup of tea. I'm also swooning over that bullygrey.

I'm with Shai, moderation. I like an athletic build, not too muscular like Bullies or too light like Sighthounds. A wedge shaped head with prick ears, not too big. I like a refined head over a coarse one. I swoon for an artistic Dobe show crop though. A double coat, ranging from smooth BC to flat Sheltie. Marsh has pretty much my ideal kind of coat, but it could be a touch harsher. And I need tails. Long plumes of tails with a crook in the end.

For coat color, I'm really digging black tri's lately, with orange points not tan and not mahogany. And wolf sables/agouti.

I like athletic looking dogs... even my basset is terribly trim & muscular, but I prefer a dog that runs like a sighthound... I like big, fat, square heads on my males and a square but feminine one on my girls. I'm a sucker for good bone in the legs and tight cat feet. Brindles have grown on me ;)

I like nice coonhounds, I'm dying for an Afghan, and Dogos have always appealed to me.

I like athletic, muscular builds and a short, smooth coat that shows it off.

I don't think I really care about ears, I'm not a huge fan of standing ears that look over-sized, I like them to fit the head. But I think the ears you get from Shar-Pei mixes are just adorable.

I don't care about tails at all. I'm not too picky about coloring but I'm not a fan of all/mostly white dogs. I don't like really pointy faces like a lot of sighthounds and collies and don't like super smooshed faces all that much but if it comes out a decent amount (like I've sen on some Boxers) then I think it's fine.
