PETA Pushes for Controversial Billboard in Northwest Arkansas

Of all the billboards across Northwest Arkansas, the one causing the most noice is not even able to turn heads.
The advertisement reads 'doggies multiply faster than Duggars.' It's designed by PETA and could soon be plastered on billboards in Tontitown, Springdale and Fayetteville.
But the feedback so far is nothing but controversial.
"I think that's a bad comparison, I don't think they should target the Duggars specifically," Christopher Bannister said.
Some even say the billboards could lead to retaliation.
"Probably a lot more of them torn down and probably a lot of people mad," Mary Crump said.
But PETA officials say their goal to use the billboards is to catch the attention of drivers by using a familiar name.
By using the Duggar name, PETA hopes to capture public attention and encourage pet owners to spay and neuter their cats and dogs.
"The fact that the Duggars have chosen to have 19 kids and have a reality show about it just presented us with an opportunity to talk about the national crisis of cat and dog overpopulation," PETA spokesperson Ashley Byrne said.
It's a problem PETA officials say is causing millions of kittens and puppies to be dumped each year.
"The Duggars chose to have a large family, but dogs and cats whose guardians don't spay and neuter then are giving birth to kittens and puppies who will be dumped in shelters by the millions," Byrne said.
And for some of the target audience members, the ad could just work.
"It's catchy, got my attention and I think it has a good message," Don Hurlbut said.
Clear Channel Outdoor has been working with PETA to create the billboard space.
The advertising group says PETA must secure permission from the Duggar family before anything can happen.
Phone calls to the Duggar family Wednesday were not returned.
