Yesterday, I was out working in my yard. Mowing and raking leaves, all that good stuff. Well, one of my neighbors was out walking her dog. She has a great dane. I walked over and was talking to her and telling her what a gorgeous dog he was. So far so good right. Well, then she asked if I had a dog. I said oh yeah, I have a pit bull. Well, she started to walk off and said that we should keep our dogs away from each other because her dog would just want to play and mine would most likely want to fight. First of all, Beulah would most likely be terrified if she saw that great dane. She's never seen a dog that big before. Second, I thought it was pretty rude what she said. I mean, here I am complimenting her dog and just being very nice and friendly, and she wants to talk down about my dog.

It just shows how uneducated she is on dog matters. And it was rude, you wouldn't want to associate with her anyway.

Danes aren't always angels, like any other breed of dog, so she really needs to back up and get off her high horse - which she won't. Just know that you're above that sort of idiocy and enjoy YOUR sweet, good natured, lovable Beulah.

By the way, Shiva and I had a run-in with a Dane at the feed store when she was about 9 months old. He was an adult dog and wanted to be aggressive with her, giving her the shoulder against her shoulder, pushing against her and making a rumbling noise while staring down at her. She pushed back until he stumbled. I thought his owner was going to fall over too - especially when he asked what kind of dog "he" was and I explained that "he" was a delicate little girl and still a puppy!

So, the next time you see this woman and her attitude, run that picture through your mind and smile!

Ugh. I hate people like that. I met a wonderful Pit Bull last September...she didn't do anything but lick my nose and let me stroke her head. I hate how people just assume things about certain breeds. I love Pit Bulls.

Ignorant people, no point in arguing with them. Only way they find out that pitbulls are sweet are when one runs up and licks them in the face but with horrible owners these days, sometimes that just wont happen. Kinda like a lose lose situation.

Okay so my idea is this...rename "pitbull" to something cutsey like shorthaired Chazhound terrier and market it as a new, active, versatile family pet. People are so dumb anyway they would adopt them and think they are this "new breed" and the word pitbull would be forgotten along with the sweet pitties sordid past :) :D

whatcha think?

The other day I was out with Jasmine and here comes the neighbor's jack russell terrior. Well Jasmine has about 25 lbs on this dog, and for no reason whatsoever, it runs over to her, growls, bites her nose, and runs back to the owner. Well, the neighbor was outside and I said "what is wrong with your dog?!" and he said 'what do you mean" and i told him what had just happened and he called me a liar! I said 'LOOK AT HER NOSE' and he said 'well that was probably from one of your other dogs.' YOU'RE RIGHT I'M JUST SEEING THINGS! Ugh, the nerve of people. My friend has a pitbull and all he wants to do is cuddle with you, he's never been aggressive towards anyone. My dog just wants to play... that gets me everytime I read it.

Terriers (and I do LOVE the little monsters) can be incredibly aggressive at times. They have no idea that they're at any size disadvantage! Unfortunately, this one's gotten by with it once with no repercussions, so it will probably try again, getting braver each time. Sooner or later your dog is going to retaliate if it keeps up.

I don't know if a squirt gun would deter the JRT from approaching your dog, but it might be worth a shot . . . so to speak ;)

I have boxers and my husband and mines best friends has pit bulls. A lot of times we will take our dogs out together to public places that allows dogs (like an outside event, etc). You wouldn't believe the number of kids who what to come up and pet our dogs. The parents are all for it until they SEE the dogs then they grab the kids by their arms and pull them away running- glaring at us with hateful eyes the whole time. We've even had people walk by and say "how dare you bring a dog like that out in public". Oh I've went off a time or two. They don't even know the dogs. Do they really think we would be stupid enough to bring an agressive dog to an event or place where there are other people around??!!! These dogs are sooo harmless. Heck - tyson is more afraid than anything. On the plus side we've also had people who have changed their opinon due to us too. There was one couple who had a kid at a neighborhood event we go to every year. We had our dogs there and the kid came up and petted the dogs. When the parents looked around and saw that they just about freaked (by their facial expressions anyway). They calmly walked over and got their son. He started bawling!! Kenya-the pit-felt bad cause he was crying so he licked him on his arm. I told the parents that it was okay if he still wanted to pet them. We sat and talked to the parents for a few min and before they left they said they had changed their minds about bully breeds, all along they thought they were mean and just for fighting but this was kind of a revelation for them. The next year we happened to see them again and guess what they had (besides a new baby!!) They had a pit bull puppy!! They named HER kenya after our friends pit. It almost brought tears to my eyes!!

maybe pit bulls need a new name..like smoochy pooches...the lady around the corner from me thinks that Victor is a dalmation with defective spots..i just never bothered to correct her..i was not in one of my better moods, and she is not a favorite of mine so i just said maybe they will get darker when he gets older. Pitbulls need a new name for a new outlook from the public..just kidding, but if u said.oh no, this isn't a pitbull, it's a New breed..called..average jo wouldn't know the difference.

My neighbors were outside yesterday, so I put Beulah on her leash, and took her out in the front yard and we played fetch and she just jumped around and didn't pay any attention to any one else. They even had a cat in their front yard and Beulah didn't do a thing. I've also found out that there are several people that live on my street that own pit bulls. I think changing the name of pit bulls would actually make a difference. People hear "PIT BULL" and they start their judgements. If only my neighbor would see how Beulah really is. A big lazy dog that like to cuddle on the couch.

Actually, I've heard that a shelter somewhere named all of the Pitties that came into the shelters 'St. Francis Terriers' in hopes that they'd be adopted quicker. lol Actually the AKC changed the names of the Pitties to American Staffordshire Terrier, so that would kinda work. ;) Just tell them you have an AmStaff and they will be like, "Oh, ok." lol
