One of my guilty pleasure is reading People magazine. Yeah, yeah, say what you want, I don't care.

This last issue I was *really* p.o.'d though, because they had EIGHT pages dedicated to Jon and Kate's divorce... 8 pages! And ONE page dedicated to the life and death of Ed McMahon.

What is wrong with the world?

Let the silly couple divorce in peace and dedicate a few more pages to honoring someone's memory!!

Glad my divorce was not discussed for 8 pages . I would be embarrassed. I agree...honor the deceased more then the circus.

The Jon & Kate thing is just bizarre.

Keep in mind, I guess, the audience. Particularly the age group they're aiming at. To me, Ed McMahon was a nice old guy who was sick for a long time. Yes, it was sad that he died, but I wouldn't have read an 8 page spread about his life, you know?

Anyway, the whole celebrity culture just seems to be getting more and more strange. I will admit to following TMZ very closely for a while when I was slow at my last job, particularly during the Britney meltdown. But now it just feels...kinda gross.

As another ramble, I think I'm getting too old for People now. All of these High School Musical people and other "kids" I don't know.

I think it has a lot to do with the demographic. Im 17.. and I have no idea who ed is. But Ill read john and kate articles even if they are 10 pages long

If the printed only what was important.. they wouldn't sell any magazines. they are printing what brings in the money

I am so sick of hearing about Jon and Kate. Never watched the show, never cared to. I think it's disgusting to see screaming headlines about Jon and Kate listed on news Web sites, right up there with articles about the horrendous events in Iran. After all, Jon and Kate are soooo important. *sarcasm*

I wish they would just stop covering them. Enough already. I didn't care before, and I don't care now.

It's sad. They've both changed. Completely changed. :(
I agree. I do think it's very, very sad. And, while I do think they like attention, I was intentionally glib in my last post. I also think Kate is really hurting (yes, I watched the darn special!). And I think Jon was really unhappy.

I mostly feel sorry for the kiddos. :(

I can agree that there are some of the new kids that I don't know or even care about, the most prized piece in the magazine that I love to read is Heroes. Wish they did more of that stuff, too.

And people should care about the good and some do. It's no wonder the majority of the world is so **** negative, the majority crave and focus on the negative. I simply choose not to. Therefore, I want less of the stupid divorce of the decade and more about honoring the lives of those living and past. THAT is what deserves more attention.

I admit, I watched the special as well. They kept saying "I care about my kids most of all" and "I only want whats best for the kids". But I think Jon wants what he thinks is best for himself. And Kate looks like she's starting to fall apart. What's best for those kids would be 2 parents who tried to save their family.

If they cared about their kids they wouldn't have put them on tv and turned them into a money machine. They would have looked at the Dionne quintuplets and said, "Thanks but no thanks" and gone on with their lives. I am sure they tell themselves that the money is good for the kids, but money cannot undo the harm of growing up having millions of people see your every move.

Case in point: Michael Jackson.

Agreed.
They NEVER take a vacation without the cameras following them... now they're divorcing and going to make their children go through that pain on television? With cameras in their faces? Are you kidding me??

They both make me sick but I'm actually glad for Jon for finally standing up for himself. Every time I saw Kate belittle him or smack him, I just felt sick. It's a shame it's ending the marriage and I REALLY REALLY hope Kate won't turn her anger onto her children (though in some ways it seems it's too late for that) but they have invited all of this onto themselves, their relationship, and most importantly, onto their kids.
It just needs to stop. The show needs to frickin' end.
