Have you ever met anyone like that? In my own family, its considered unusual to have more than one dog. More than two dogs? Well, then you are crazy.

I like to have more than one dog in my home. Nobody in my family has more than ONE. Someone said that its unfair on your other dogs... they will get jealous and such. Like you cant love more than one dog.

Its just so ANNOYING to me.

My whole family for generations always had more than one dog. Personally I think dogs are happier having a second playmate other than yourself. Try as you might- you can not play like another dog would.

It's really annoying to me, too.
If you can't have two dogs because you can't love them both, can you also not have two kids (or more) then?

Pffff.

I wonder if these are the same people who think you should only have one kid. Sometimes people freak out on Robert and I when we mention adding a second child.

My father.. He told me repeatedly when I only had Cider that 'Only crazy people have more than one dog.' I told him more than once I wanted 2, but still heard that only crazy people had more than one dog..

Then I finally got another dog, and I haven't heard a peep from him, although he tells me Dekka's dog number at home is crazy ;) Doubly so when we are visiting, haha.

My extended family I hear is nasty about the fact I have 2 dogs behind my back I hear. Other family members can have 2. It's something about me having two.... I'd love a third.. wonder if I can get an award for being an outcast ;)

I actually feel kinda bad for dogs in single dog homes. I mean, when your at work they would be home alone! At least with having 2 dogs they always have each other.

And, if you want proof that dogs like having other dogs around, look at Lauralin's summer... she was saying not to long ago how summer cries when left alone, but if she's with other dogs and left alone she's fine.

Luckily, my family is pretty animal oriented. And the few that aren't... well who cares about them! LOL :p

If I got a third dog, my mom would flip out on me. And I am an adult with my own life. I feel like she treats me like I am still 10 years old. Everything I do has to be approved by her it seams.

Even though everyone in my family only has one dog or none at all, they all have several kids.

My parents. :p

OTOH, they can't tell Malcolm and Kaylee apart. I figure I can have an infinite number of collies as long as they're all tricolor and my parents only see one rough and one smooth at a time. ;P

What would they say of 11 dogs? lol.

I don't think its crazy at all. Dog ARE pack animals. And even though humans can be considered a pack member, its not the same as another dog.

I will never have just one dog.

Nobody in my family has just one dog. 3 is the average.

I would love to have an infinite number of collies!!!!! maybe someday, when I am finally able to buy my cabin in PA on 20+ acres, and I have my sheep and horses!

..... is is sad that my "goal" in life is to live in a small house with lots of kids and animals? LOL.

Personally, I don't think I could handle more than one, unless they got along phenomenally. I wake up at 6 to take Lucy out on a walk before work, and my husband comes home early to let her out and take her on walk 2. Then he or I will take her to the dog park if there's time, and then it's time for dinner, finishing up work, and bed.

If we had to throw 2 more walks in there, or spend extra time training dog #2, Lucy would get neglected. There's just not time in the day!

That being said, I really do admire those who can handle and properly care for multiple dogs! Our situation just doesn't fit with a multiple dog lifestyle.

I wish I could get another dog. I feel bad leaving argo's at home all alone when my girlfriend and I have are both out at work. It would be nice for him to have a playmate, since the cats don't want to play with him. lol.

in my family, we've always had two dogs, except for a few years (after I moved out) when they had NONE, and then about three years where they only had one.

Now, they think that I have too many dogs, and tell me so on a daily basis. They have told me that my "perfect number" is two - one for my SO and one for me. My feeling is, as long as the owner has enough time to give each individual dog the individual attention it needs/deserves, as well as being able to afford it, then that's how many dogs you can have.

xpaeanx - I don't think it's silly... we have similar goals! I want lots of land and lots of dogs... I just don't want the kids LOL

The whippets would agree with you, but my JRTs wouldn't. Dekka would be happier as an only dog. She never plays with other dogs. Neither does Kaiden. Snip plays with other dogs so infrequently it might as well be never.

They are all crated if I am gone for the day, just to make sure no one eats someone that I don't think its a consideration.

Don't feel bad for Xena. She has plenty to entertain herself with.

Our household is the only one in both Steve and my family to have a multi-dog home and not once did I hear anyone say anything about it. Not to my face, at least. Plus it isn't anyone's business, I'm old enough to take care of my loved ones.

Why would you have to throw 2 more walks in? Why wouldn't you just walk them together? Keeda and Bailey go out together, I have a leash in each hand. And as far as extra time training, unless you plan on a show dog, they learn most of what a normal household needs in the first months, then the next 10-whatever years there's not much extra time training.

I cannot wait to have two again. Hopefully next year. At this point I don't care what kind of dog so long as it's small-medium and well... a dog. ;)
