I would like to ask you guys a question. How long is your dog inside before you get a chance to let him/her go out for a pee?

My dogs go out late at night...at about 12am or 1am...
they don't go out again until about 11am or 12pm...
There haven't been any accidents or anything..because they're sleeping through the night..but is that too long for their bladders?

Messina has had a bladder infection twice before, but I really don't think it had anything with her going to pee since when I let her out she usually takes a while to sniff around and finally go..its not like she runs out and pees while walking or anything LOL..

Also..during the day..they go out every 6 hours..which I'm pretty sure is just fine...

But are long periods withough peeing bad for the dog's health? Like, can it lead to kidney failure? Is the fact that Messina has had two bladder infections before also putting her at a higher risk of getting kidney disease?

I'm always worried about that.

My dogs will glady hold it twelve hours to not get out of bed in the morning so I doubt its really a problem. If it was more of a dog locked in a little cage and it held it cuz it didn't wnat to mess itself then maybe but I would think if the dog wanted to pee it would at least get up-right:p

Chez goes 12 hours overnight, but during the day she's still asking to go out once or twice an hour... she's 4.5 months old.

yeah my dogs aren't pups..Messina is turning 6 this Aug...Dudek just turned 10...so he goes out during the day every 5 or 6 hours because he's older..he does sleep overnight though and I'm not a morning person so I let them out late and get up late lol... (i'm jobless, but a student, so that's my excuse!) LOL

Wow Max could never hold 12 hours :p He went at 6:00am, 2:30pm, 7:30pm, 10:30pm, and repeat. So at longest 8.5-9 hours and he really had to go when I got home from school. During Max's last week when he was getting all sorts of x rays they did say that he had an abnormally small bladder though, so that could very well be part of it.

Cider goes out 12am - 1am and nto again till 12ish pm..
And she's not dinging her bell insanely she also walks around the yard sniffing before going.

During the day I just let her out multiple times without her asking and she goes.. so I'm not sure what her usual holding time during the day is. I've often wondered if our night time schedule is healthy..

I really think that Ollie could wait 24 hrs. !! He can go out whenever as he's never cage much , but he's never asked to go out to pee. I've still got 5 mos old Seger here , so I do offer a go out more ..... At night he goes to bed with me about 11 Pm and wakes me up about 8AM... whether it's a " Hey Grammy , let's start the day " thing or a needed pee , I don't know ! At home his family is up at 6:30 AM.

They all get better !! It's what is done in the beginning . I'm really lucky with Ollie as I have no clue about his past . He's at least 2 now and I've had him 8 mos , He's never had an accident with me .

My dogs usually go out about 11:00 pm and then when I get up at about 6:30am. Charlie sometimes doesn't get up with me, but Rocket always does. Charlie has a bladder made of rubber and could wait alot longer. But during the day, they go out every couple hours....not just to pee, but to explore too.

Julie..yes I agree...walking to explore and have some fun is definately important.

I was just concerned that maybe holding it in might have future health consequences for the dog...

Anyone have any comments or additional information on this?
