Ugh this painting is driving me nuts. I have to finish it by Christmas too. I'm painting this picture of my Grandparent's Basset Hound, Basil. He died a few months back.

I'm not 100% on the background yet... wonder if it's perhaps a bit too clashy?
Also... The dog looks freaky but that's partly because I haven't done the eyes yet lol. I have a LOT of work to do on this painting and a very short time in which to do so.

What do you think so far though?

Lol i do the eyes first the background last. FUnny how everyone does it differently. SO good so far.

Smkie I usually do the eyes and background last too. I only did the background before finishing the dog because I was getting frustrated with the dog's body lol. Though the eyes have to be last... completely last. So until then he remains a freaky looking dog.

My friend Bobby said the eyes are the first thing he does.

oh... I did work on it a little more last night too. No updated photos yet. I started working on his body and I added a little more shading to his face and tried to work on his mouth a little bit.

I love it, but I have one suggestion for you - do another layer of paint on the background. I like the pattern, but I think it's too transparent.
