I just talked to the friend that was going to adopt Zoey. Apparently he can't take her anymore because he had a falling out with his roomies. :( I so wanted her to go to him. Now we have to start from scratch looking for a home for her. I don't have any other friends that want to take her, so she's going to have to go to a stranger. Our landlord is letting us keep her until we find a place for her, but his patience won't last forever. I'm bummed. :(

I don't like roomy adoptions so maybe it's a blessing in disguise .

Awww :( I hope it works out.

My mom was going to adopt the foster that I took in last year... and backed out of it =/ I had to give her to a stranger as well. It was really hard at first, but I know she's in a great home. You'll find a great home for Zoey as well.

What a bummer. Do you know any adoption/rescue groups that can help out? Can you put her on Pet Finder?

Thanks everyone.

I made an ad about her and my landlord is going to circulate it for us.
I also put an ad on petfinder.
And I also listed her on the Independent Animal Rescue website.

We're asking an adoption fee of $100. I'm willing to drop it for the right home, but I wanted to make it high enough to scare creepies away... Does anyone think that's too much? I saw adoption fees between $10-$200 on petfinder.

No - I think $100 is a pretty fair and common price. Stick to your guns, it'll work out :)

One of the hardest things I ever had to do was find a home for a beautiful female Malamute who turned up at the back door of our business downtown dragging a broken logging chain. I'd love to have kept her, but she and Purdue - my GSD of many years - hated each other. Even when she went into heat they hated each other.

This has a happy ending, Melissa ;)

I was walking her at the dam one Saturday and a woman came up and started talking to me about her. It turned out she wanted a dog as she had been widowed recently and she and her two young sons wanted a dog. She wanted one who was large enough to make her feel safe.

After talking to her for over an hour and seeing the way Ananda reacted to her, I knew I'd found a wonderful home for Ananda. The woman wanted to take Ananda home with her, but I told her no, that I'd bring Ananda to her the next evening, since I needed time to say good-bye to Ananda and so did my Mom.

I took Ananda to her house the next evening and Ananda's new mom met us at the door. She had tears of relief in her eyes. She'd been afraid I would back out. We went in and Ananda met the boys (7 and 10 years old). All three were ecstatic. They showed me Ananda's bed - literally a twin mattress and springs on a frame on the screened in porch - perfect for a Malamute! Big crockery bowls for food and water . . . toys, bones, all ready for Ananda.

She cried after me and I cried all the way home, but when I called a few days later to check on her everyone was madly in love :)

Thanks for the story, Renee. :) I'm going to make sure that Zoey gets her happy ending.

Jess, that would be great. If you want, I can email you a flyer I made for her. You can pm me with your email address if you think it would help.
