Aww so cute. Make sure you don't step on him...
You have no idea how many times i have been so close - he is so quick, he darts along the floor, following you everywhere - wish my dogs did that all the time - usually when they are not behind me they are up to no good in the backyard.

I know! We got my maine coon mix when he was 4 weeks old years ago, he was so tiny we had to be very careful, we actually got one of his paws stuck in a door the second day

How is it going with the dogs?

We have introduced them a few times over the last few days, but Monster has been in his crate and i have made Demi and Rory drop stay at the door.

Rory salivates which worry’s me, should I be worried about this? Demi doesn't seem to care; she walks away after about a minute of looking.

Rory also cries to Monsters meowing, even when the door is shut to where Monster is, OH thinks its cute, but call me a pessimist I think there’s more to it.

I don’t know if I will ever trust them with Monster.

Bit worried about Monster today, he seem really flat, he normally jumps up awake in the crate and runs to the door to be let out and fed. But this morning he just looked at me, he is also really wobbly – normally Monster acts like he’s in the circus. He also fell asleep straight after his feeding which he has never done before. I think I will be making a trip to the vet today – The little Monster has come to far for it too end like this.

Updates? I've been waiting anxiously to see how poor little Monster is. What did the vet say?

Sorry, annual leave is over so I’m now back at work :( so finding time for updates on Monster will be difficult, but hopefully i can manage an update ever few days.

Well i rushed him off to the vet; he was extremely flat and wobbly when we arrived, was really starting to scare me.
The vet gave him a full look over again, ears, eyes, heart, felt tummy etc and diagnosed him with low blood glucose levels. Apparently in kittens as young as Monster that are being hand reared their blood glucose levels can fluctuate very quickly, hence him being ok one day and not the next.

He recommended giving monster a mushy meal once a day in a jar lid – so some dry food and his formula all mixed up in a mush, this will help bring on his lapping which evolves from his sucking reflex, and give him some extra essentials in his diet. He has really taken to this, although he gets it everywhere, all over his face, legs, floor an absolute mess, haven’t worked out if he actually gets any in his mouth yet?

Right now I’m very impatiently waiting for Monster to go to the toilet, his tummy is huge and I changed his kitty litter as soon as I got home so I could monitor whether he has been to the toilet but he hasn’t relieved himself yet and its been roughly 3 ½ hours since I’ve been home – Does anyone know how to solve a blocked up tummy in a kitten? He doesn’t seem bothered at all, is it me over reacting? It just looks really odd, his tummy is huge?

Also brought him a heap of new toys to keep himself occupied when its the boxer twins turn to come in the house, I don’t think they are too happy with the bedroom being off limits. Although I’m also looking after them tonight as they were de-sexed today and Demi especially is looking very sorry for herself.

Hi Wings - he was doing a little number 2 every day until yesterday. He has gone number 1's quite a few times since yesterday. I have rubbed his tummy and butt etc with a warm moist cotten wool ball, nothing has happened yet - how long should i wait.

He has meat in his diet so i'm assuming he should still be doing number 2's?

He is not distressed, in fact quite the opposite, he is running around like a mad thing. Although he has not touched any food today?

Thanks for the links Dizzy - they are very useful.

Gonna keep this short as i am very sick - i have the flu and its really knocking me about.

He has done number 2's - YEHHH i came home from work and checked up on him only to discover that he is no longer blocked up. Its a huge relief! Hopefully Monster has no more dramas and i can post happy little pictures and storys from now on.

I have heaps more pics but i need to go to bed for awhile - will post when feeling better.

Thankyou to everyone for your advice - your all wonderful :)

New Photos of Monster

Hi All,

I have been really lazy with giving updates on Monster's progress - he is doing fantastically.

I think last time i posted was in celebration of Monster's bowel movements, since then he has been fine, he is completely weaned from the bottle and he is eating meat and formula mixed together three times a day.

He is full of beans and runs around like a mad thing, we have to be really careful not to step on him as he is like lightening.
He is also extremely playful and those little sharp teeth are.....well SHARP to say the least.

He has taken to climbing up my leg whenever i'm not paying attention to him, which is a habit we are trying to get him out of.

Still slowly introducing him to Demi and Rory who now loose interest in him very quickly which is great seeings the first few introductions they were completely focused on him and I knew exactly what was going through their heads – He was a moving meal.

Monster is now double his size since we first brought him home, he is 7 weeks old this coming Tuesday, I cant believe it!! How time flies, he is due for his first vaccination, which he is booked in for, cant wait to see how much he weighs.

I have four new photos of him that my younger sister Sarny took for me, she wants to study photography at university (she’s in year 11) I think she has done a fantastic job – he looks beautiful, have to talk her into taking some photos of Demi and Rory, although she says she never does photos on demand.

Monster biting my mums fingers when he went for a visit - he has no manners.

Monster sitting nicely - looks like a deer in the headlights

Monster licking his lips

I have HEAPS more photos but these are by far the best - Enjoy!

Looks like you've been adopted!

Please go to www.thecatsite.com - it is a fantastic and informative site, with a whole forum on kitten care. You should pm a member there named Kumbulu, she runs a kitten rescue facility in Perth, where I live, and is widely considered THE guru on kittens. I am KitEKats4Eva! there if you'd like someone to show you around! There's also a forum for dogs and other animals and I'm sure the TCS community would love to get to know you.

You have done an incredible job with Monster (LOVE the name, btw ;) ) and you should be enormously proud of yourself. Hand-raising a tiny fragile kitten is one of life's joys but very hard work and very, very difficult.

Big pats on the back to you, and THANK YOU for saving this darling baby. He is just too adorable.

PS - I've just seen that you live in Australia too. If you pm me I can give you Tania (Kumbulu's) number here in WA, if you need any over-the-phone tips :)

Thanks for the info RubyLove, i will have to check out the cat site. Looking after him has been very rewarding.

Its funny how these things happen, we didn't really want a cat because of our two boxer pups, they have such a high prey drive that we thought getting a cat would be a disaster waiting to happen.

But Monster kind of found us and after spending so much time feeding him and generally looking after him he has become part of the family and theres no way we could find him a new home now :) He was just meant to be here with us.
