I gotta admit im alittle nervous about bringing the puppy home. My boys are 6-7-9 Years old Im not worried about them liking him Because they dont care. They just blend so well together i dont want to throw that off by adding a baby.

It really depends on the dog/s...

With Maddie, she tolerates puppies, but she's not too crazy about them. Mostly she ignores them, and she's quick to correct any behavior she does not like. But, if they have "dog manners" after she knows them for a while she will play with them ;) So, the dynamics will probably change a bit, especially at first, but as long as you are consistent with the behaviors that are/aren't okay for you it should work out ;) Perhaps the puppy will increase their activity level and have them playing more :) That's what Missy always does... plays like a puppy!

It's good that they all get along with puppies. I always had one dog out of the group who had a low tolerance for puppy behavior so I always had to keep a careful eye out. The puppy also learned to stay away from Mr. GrumpyPants... so I guess that was a piece of useful education in itself.

Consider yourself lucky that your dogs are willing to allow a pup to integrate into the family at all. You could have one like mine who goes out of her way to make everyone and everything feel unwelcome.

The puppy will probably be spending a lot of time with you, rather than being babysat by your other dogs, so I don't think his/her arrival will throw off their groove too much. :)

Ya it definitely depends on the dogs. I'm lucky in that Bamm loves puppies... he just absolutely adores them. So as long as I integrate new dogs into our family while they are still puppies, it's pretty much a win situation for Bamm.

Good luck! :)

I think it will be interesting for you. Adding a new dog or puppy always changes the "groove" at least a bit, but not necessarily in bad ways. When I foster puppies, Boo usually begins to act much younger. She plays more and acts like a momma dog in that she tolerates most of their obnoxiousness, but tells them off when they've gone too far. I find that some of Boo's care gets pushed under the radar just because having a puppy makes life a little hectic. Right now her hair is a mess because the puppy likes to chew on her, but I haven't found the time to give her a good brushing since he has been here. I also noticed that Boo tends to get guardy with the puppy about objects that she doesn't actually care all that much about, just because she notices that the puppy seems to like them and want them (so obviously, they must be exciting and therefore are Boo's and only Boo's.) She definitely feeds off of him just as he feeds off of her. Usually it works out for the better.

So essentially, yep, your groove will most definitely be disturbed, but it will soon settle down into a new groove that might be even better.

I thought bringing a puppy in to the house with Blaze when he was almost 8, would just through him way off. since he has been a only dog for 6-7 years. I was wrong. he is SO SO SO much happier with solo. they are BFFS.

But then again he was a only dog, and didnt have 2 other dogs in a pack dynamic.
