Yikes. That's why I give my own shots whenever possible. The only one I do at the vet is rabies, and that only so I can have "legit" papers to prove my dogs are vaccinated. Otherwise, I do the vaccines myself and copy the info off the labels into my files. If someone needs shot records, I'll give them a printed copy, and they have to deal with that. (Of course, I can see how that could possibly put you in a tight spot if you need a specific service and the people wont accept non-vet records.)

I paid $160.00 last year for Orson and Phoebe BOTH to have their shots AND their heart worm blood work and that included a 4 doses each of heartgard.

280 some dollars is ridiculous.

Petsmart vets have free office visits for a couple hours a couple of days a week. It's around 40 bucks for the vaccines then (per dog). I know people don't like the vets there, but for vaccines and heartworm tests and basic stuff like that, I go there.

That is basically what I do. I use the stickers from the bottle of vaccine and stick them directly into my records along with the date given. The local kennel accepts this as long as rabies vac is given by a vet and they have the original sticker from the other vaccine bottles. I can get the rabies at clinics for $6.00 or around $10.00 at the vet office with no "office visit".
Although I will never use that particular kennel again, because of how the dogs smelled when I got them back, and because they will not allow you to retrieve your dog when you pick them up...etc.
I have found that either taking them with or having a reliable friend tend to them is better for my dogs than being in a kennel.
Good LUck!

Almost $300?! That is bananas! I would look elsewhere.

For both of mine, if I remember correctly, the shots are $80 (for rabies, DHLPP, and bordatella) including the visit.
