Ok, Its time I share the news!

So while I haven't posted a thread about it, I've not exactly been secretive Mostly because I'm super duper excited and secrets aren't my strong suit LOL

BUT

If all goes as planned, in July/August of next year, we will be adding dog number 3 to the family! A Black Russian Terrier x Malinois mix. I'm unbelievably excited, I finally got the wife to say yes! And now the loooong wait ensues... Filling out forms, preparing the fam, moving into a bigger house, and the hardest part... coming up with names! lol So if you have any names you'd like to share, male or female as we aren't sure which we would like to get as of yet

The first litter was an oops. But the puppies are in sport or service homes and doing wonderfully. The parents are health tested so they have decided to have another litter of the same cross before getting her fixed. I've wanted one since I saw a pup from the oops litter, but since at that time there was no intention of re-crossing, I gave up. But then I found out that they were doing the cross one last time! Super excited! Hoping to do dog sports/possible service dog for myself, depending on if I feel the need. Will probably be training for a couple tasks just in case, but I've been pretty good anxiety wise lately

Yup, pretty sure this forum is where I first discovered them (though not entirely sure, as I'm a member on quite a few dog forums and groups )

This wouldn't be from a Leslie lady? She's had like 2-3 litters of that mix....first was an "oops" others weren't. Oh and she recently bred a bull terrier,doberman Malinois litter. You might talk to some of the puppy owners of you haven't, I know of one who has severe temperament issues.

I am aware. She breeds work mixes, no different than people breeding curs to pit bulls for hogging. I've talked to an owner of a pup from litter number 1. She has nothing but good things to say about her pup, and I'm actually going to meet them next Saturday. This will be litter number 3.

ETA: Her dogs are structurally more sound than most (well every that I've seen personally) mixed breeds. Huge difference in breeding willy nilly and actually having a purpose for breeding

That dog was a service dog prospect, yes? Did he 'wash out' of service dog suitability, or were there extreme temperament issues?

Yes. Both, she was thinking of keeping him as a pet and with his temperament... Just couldn't. The breeder wasn't easy to get ahold of to send him back, either.


OP, I know how exciting new puppies can be, but please take what others have to say into consideration. I don't want to see anyone else get burned.

I would say that I guess everybodys idea of a purpose is definitely different. As far as structurally sound, well, I feel a dog would need to be worked hard to prove that of health testing isn't done. As far as work mixes go....I'd want to know their placements in true working environments which I believe are none.

The past two days the breeder has been a bit sketchy, and after talking to more of the puppy owners, we've decided to just stick with the plan of adopting a pitty once we move. I have to say I LOVE they way the adult dog looks, so neat, but I would back away as well if the other litters had temperament issues, one dog in a few litters I could look past, but a few I could not

As a BRT person, I was holding back and biting my lip at this thread.

I absolutely adore the BRT; there is truly nothing like a good BRT. And although I'd, personally, never have one in this lifetime, I do have tremendous respect for the Mal. As has been noted, the adults from the prior litter are handsome, indeed.

Using these two particular breeds, over many generations, to create a new breed is actually quite an intriguing concept. But to simply cross the two like your typical "designer dog breeder " - to have a dog with the power and defensive drive of a BRT, along with the hair-trigger reactivity, speed and agility of the Mal, is a recipe for potential disaster.

There are painfully few good BRT breeders in North America, and this is definitely not one of them. I'm relieved to read you've decided to follow your head and not your heart!

Yeah, honestly I think that a pit will fit our lifestyle better right now anyways, since we have a preschooler. Tons of pit pups come through the shelter system around here, so it won't be too hard to find one that fits in

Thanks. I would really like a super high drive sport dog, and we do plan on getting a Mal eventually, though it probably won't be at least until our youngest (who is 3) is in middle or high school. To be honest I don't know that much about the brt, except they were bred by the Russians as protection dogs.

We live in a sketchy town, and our doxies, while a great alarm system, aren't intimidating at all so something that can make people have second thoughts about approaching the yard while the kids are playing is definitely high on our list if necessities for a next dog.

I'm sorry it turned out to be sketchy but I'm glad you found out before it was too late. Pit puppies are awesome though, so I bet you'll be happier that route anyway.
