Went to the gym last night 20 minutes before they closed - spent that time on the bike, got just over 5 miles in! Not my best by any stretch, but with how inactive I've been for the last month, I'm happy with it. Hoping to beat that tonight and maybe mix in some weight machines.

I'm so unhappy with myself. My plan to exercise, which didn't even take much effort, has fell though.

I never seem to have enough motivation to exercise. Or, I will for a few days, and will actually exercise, but then that motivation is gone.

(Bleh. Sorry for being so unmotivational)

It takes 6wks for working out to become a habit (I have no idea if that's true but I read it somewhere and people agreed) so suffer through for 6wks then you won't find it such a struggle. It will come easier& you'll feel bizarre if you don't break a sweat!

I am, however, dreading the workout this afternoon. My boyfriend is there now& I hope his report is that it isn't as terrible as I imagine it to be.

Little late to join this, but my bf and I started hitting the gym hard again, and I was 221lbs last Tuesday, down to 211.3lbs yesterday! Know I'm not going to lose 10lbs every week, but I am still feeling awesome! Just had to share! Don't really have anyone else to share with because if they aren't in the process of losing weight, or getting healthy, people don't generally care. So don't mind my brag! :)

Congratulations to the both of you! That's a great accomplishment. Even losing 5 pounds is.

I've been hitting the gym about twice a week! Goal of three times, but between work/seasonal asthma/sick dogs I've had a hard time reaching that goal. But, when I do go, I've been doing 30 mins of intense cardio (for me hahaha) and 30 minutes of weight training.

I've also really been starting to watch what I'm eating and have been trying ti make nutritional, low calorie choices. I've cut out all fast food, chips, or soft drinks. No more snacking, unless it is veggies or a portioned amount of something. Trying to stick with lean meats, soups, and lots of veggies for meals. Switched to a low calorie bread. Greek Yogart is my new best friend for a low cal, protien packed addition for lunch or a snack! (And it tastes delicious so my sweet tooth is satisfied.)

I've lost 4.5 pounds!!! :D My normal weight was around 148. Got up to 150 before I started my new "diet". My healthy weight is around 135. I'm down to 145.3 pounds as of two days ago! Whoot whoot! So proud of myself, and I am already starting to make my food choices a habit, not a burden, so I really hope once I loose the weight this will be something I can stick to, even afyer Michael gets back! I don't feel like I'm "dieting" and I do have my "fat days" where I eat pizza, drunk rum and cokes or beer, and just chill, but I'm still moving the right direction.

So so pleased with myself, which is just giving me a boost forward to keep on going!

Ok. I admit it I am needing to lose weight. Probably around 15-20 pounds (I weigh somewhere between 140-145) I should weigh I think around 125.

I am 5'4" with a really small/light frame.

The last year or two I have put on a lot of weight. I look pregnant (imagine fairly skinny looking girl with giant puffed out belly lol) I have been wearing sweatshirts and loose shirts to try and hide it.
I have a bunch of fat accumulating all around my hips as well and have to dig to find my hips now.

So, I have purchased a Fitbit Charge HR to hopefully help me track my fitness goals. I am a very goal driven person, and I found it hard to keep exercising when I couldn't see progress in my body. So I think having goals like number of steps each day and things like that will keep me motivated.

It will also be useful to calculate how many calories I am eating.. way too many but I love unhealthy foods.. Pasta and pizza mmmm.
I do not think I will make any drastic changes to my diet, but seeing how many calories I am eating vs. burning will help me -eat less or more healthy more often and burn more calories.

I also ordered some things to go hiking/walking with my dog(s) on trails too which I would find more fun than just walking on the sidewalk or something.

I am hoping to find people (hopefully other dog people) to walk with as well! But I think that will be easier once I move back to the cities. Currently in Mankato, next I will be in Rochester for a year or so, and then back to the cities after school I go!

Putting the food I've eaten into My Fitness Pal has *really* helped me. When I wasn't watching what I was eating, there was some days I was consuming almost 2000 calories a day. Just due to snacking during the day, large portions, or drinks. Or certain meals that didn't *seem* bad, but when you actually LOOK...dang. I've been consistently eating between 1100-1200 calories a day now (estimated - probably more, tbh) and I'm eating meals that fill me up and keep me satisfied. It's great!

Yeah that is what I am hoping! Actually seeing the numbers of the calories I am consuming vs burning should help motivate me to make a change. I do not think I will give up my favorite foods, but may eat healthier snacks to keep me more full, eat smaller portions, not have ice cream for breakfast.. lol. Eat some veggies instead of just pasta. That sort of thing.

I can only imagine the most calories I have consumed in a day.. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 4,000+..

I ate 4200 calories 3 days ago. PMS from Hell. It will probably take me two weeks to make up for the damage.

But I love MFP, it's definitely changed my life. Even if I know I'm probably gaining a pound this month. But at least it makes it easier to lose it. I eat everything though.. just in moderation. If I start cutting things out, I end up binging on them...

Still doing Les Mills Combat and loving it. I'm starting week 4, I think.

Yes, I feel the same way about cutting things out of my diet.. then I am just going to crave them more and not stick with any changes if anything is too drastic.

What is MFP?

My fitness pal.

Fran, you should be fine... a pound is approximately 3500 calories, and most people burn at least 1800/day just from being alive. IIRC, you only consume about 1200/day, and you exercise... I wouldn't worry about "the damage". You're not going to gain a (permanent) pound from one day of bad eating.

It appears as though I'm losing about 2lbs/week pretty steadily. :)

Thank you! What is IIRC?.. sorry I don't have all this lingo down yet!

So people really lose around 1,800 calories a day not doing much? Do you have any sites you recommend for reading up on calories burned, and how much different types of exercise helps, vs. things you eat and such?

Also, tell me your ways! What are you doing to lose 2lbs/week, that sounds like A LOT to me! Congrats!!!

I used MyFitnessPal for a while, but I found that I became obsessed with counting calories and ended up starving myself. So then I would be so hungry that I would binge on sweets.

I lost a lot of weigh, but it wasn't fun being hungry all the time.

So then I just decided to say screw it to counting calories and now I just run and don't worry too much about what I'm eating. If I feel like I indulged to much I will just run farther.
