Well, that was fun. Just went out for a quick 2 mile run (well, "quick" is a relative term). It's 21 degrees here. Haven't run too much in the cold lately. Lungs are on fire.

My goal is to build on what I started in 2015. Now that my knee seems to have healed, I can get back to running and now that I've hired more staff, I can get back into my run club and work my way back up to doing four miles per run. Would love to start shaving time off at some point.

Snowboarding at least 2X a week--goal is to be able to hit a black run and/or not die in the trees by the end of this season.

I've got a bunch of 5K's lined up, I'm organizing another one, I'm doing at least the Spartan Sprint (hopefully I can find a Beast near me), signing up for another Tough Mudder and possibly throwing a Rugged Maniac or Warrior Dash in there as well.

I go to 24 Hour Fitness a few times a week and I'm doing a free trial week at Crossfit this week to see how I like that.

I've been having a lot of fun with weights recently, so I want to keep that up and progress with it. As always trying to get out for walks/hikes regularly, more cross country skiing hopefully, and I'd love to get back into running when the weather warms up. Also a big goal for this year is more rock climbing, but that is really weather dependent - hopefully lots of it this summer!

I really love the visible differences from even just a bit of weight lifting, so I'm interested to see where I can go with that.

me, my dog, and my husband did the first day of the couch to 5K. Here's hoping we stick with it
Couch to 5k was how I got into running! I loved it. It was crazy because I would have 1-3 really hard weeks and then suddenly the next two weeks were a breeze, then back to hard. I think it really worksl

Still can't run! I walked for about 12 miles on Tuesday in NYC and my foot was killing me afterwards too. So bummed. Just been taking walks since but will probably go back to the gym tomorrow or Saturday. Still lifting weights at home though. Diet hasn't been great, with my sister visiting, but I've managed to limit the damage I guess.

Did you do anything on the off days?
Yes. I felt like 3 days wasn't quite enough to make the progress I wanted to, but I knew rest days were still important so I did 5 days a week. 3 days I didn't the actual program, and the other 2 days I did jump rope, squats and calf raises. I think there were a few weeks when I felt like the next step was really easy so I ran 4 days (but there were definitely weeks it was really hard, lol). Now I run 5-6 days a week. It's been recommended to me too to focus more on my core because you use it more when running than you think you do.

I started this year slacking on exercise. Laziness and the horrible cold weather overtook me.

Lately I've been trying to stick with a fitness plan from "Your Shape" for the Xbox360.
So today I did a 30 minute cardio work out called "break a sweat." DROWNING in sweat would have been a more apt name! lol. But I finished it! I'm hoping to incorporate that one in more often and eventually be able to do it without feeling like I might collapse or lose the contents of my stomach.

This year, I plan on running the Furry Friends 5k in June again, but I'm hoping for 25 minutes or under. Last year my time was 31 minutes I believe.
One of my biggest problems has always been running in the cold. Does anyone have any tips to make it a little more tolerable on my lungs? I hate that the winter puts such a damper on my running.

You might have already tried this, but if not, try taking it slower. You should be able to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. Obviously the better shape you are in, the faster you'll be able to go and still do that. That helps me a lot and I used to feel like me throat and lungs were on fire from the cold. I've also heard of people wrapping a scarf around their mouths.

I can not run on a treadmill. Way too boring.

I joined the gym, but busted my ankle about two hours later...

I will be posting more once it's better!

Ouch. Them machines be dangerous. I remember going to my doctor after getting a treadmill because I hurt my back putting it together. He chuckled and said, "Yeah, those things can hurt people. I fell off one at the gym three days ago."

I hope you get better soon!

Speed doesn't seem to change the pain, but I will definitely try out that scarf trick.
And I definitely agree with you on the treadmill thing, plus if I'm gonna run, I'm gonna exercise the dogs while I'm at it.

I started Les Mills Combat today (the DVDs, not the class). So far it seems relatively easy, I was able to keep up with most of it, which is a first for new cardio programs. We'll see how it goes. I'm still planning to continue lifting (the little I do 15 minutes 3x a week that is), and probably hit the elliptical or treadmill at the gym on rest days.

I'm feeling guilty when I only exercise 30 minutes a day though. I don't know why.

I shoveled my driveway, two neighbor's driveways and the entire street's sidewalk so the kids could get to the school bus stop without having to walk in the street. I think that counts as "fitness minutes" for the day.

P.S. I can't life my arms.

Totally does. I did the shoveling the other day when we only got 8 inches but it was HEAVY snow and half ice, and my arms, shoulders and back were killing me for 2 days.

Speaking of which, I made it through the first 2 days of Les Mills Combat and I've been pretty much out of commission since... Seriously couldn't walk for 2 days. I'm on day 3 and it's still painful. Tomorrow I'm hopping back on the treadmill though, and will go back to Combat on Wednesday (I got to drop the car off next to the gym tomorrow anyway, and I'll be stuck for an hour, so I figured I might as well use it).

It's hilarious though how sometimes you think you're in decent shape and a new workout totally kicks your ass (it honestly didn't even seem THAT bad) and you're sore for days after starting... Which kinda defeats the purpose because you end up with 3 days without exercise because of it, but heck, I'll get used to it.
