Octomom puts pet birth control sign on her door

LA HABRA, Calif. — It's official. Octomom Nadya Suleman doesn't want your dog or cat following in her footsteps.

As a front yard full of paparazzi cheered her on, Suleman unveiled a 3-foot-by-4-foot plastic sign Wednesday that reads: "Don't Let Your Dog or Cat Become an Octomom. Always Spay or Neuter."

"Turn left. Pose. Smile, Nadya," photographers jockeying for position shouted as Suleman stood in front of the sign.

A few curious onlookers stopped to watch as a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals mascot (a person in a dog suit) gave her a hug.

PETA is paying Suleman $5,000 to keep the sign on her front door until June 9, the deadline when city officials say it must be removed. The organization is also throwing in a month's supply of veggie hot dogs and burgers for her and her 14 children.

Suleman acknowledged she put the sign on her door partly for the money but added her support of PETA is sincere.

"I love animals and I do believe they should be spayed or neutered," she said. "Humans of course are much different."

Her children, the oldest of whom is 9, want a dog, Suleman said. She told them they can have one when they are old enough to care for it.

Suleman already had six children when she gave birth 16 months ago to octuplets conceived by in vitro fertilization.

Since then she has struggled to pay her bills and was in danger of losing her home earlier this year. Her lawyer has since negotiated an extension on a $450,000 mortgage payment that had been due in March.

"It's really a win-win situation for everyone," PETA campaign coordinator Amanda Fortino said of the sign.

Fortino said the agreement allowed PETA to do its part to help Suleman financially while also spreading word that more than 7 million cats and dogs enter shelters every year, where more than half are put to death.

Didnt they just try and get the Duggars to aprove a giant sign saying something about not letting your dogs multiply like the Duggars?

WOW !! Glad that it's for a good cause , but what else will she do for $$$ !

1. It's PETA, 'nuff said.

2. Do no "always" spay or neuter. Spay and neuter your dog if you can not be responsible enough to prevent unwanted litters.

3. "Humans of course are much different" Nooo... if you can't be responsible and you recklessly have more kids than you can take care of and AFFORD... then heck no, humans SHOULD be no different.

4. A $450,000.00 mortgage payment?! WTH??? She is UNEMPLOYED and nobody wants to see her sorry vagina... errr.. clown's car. Who would give her a loan for a house in that amount?!

Makes you miss Bob Barker, doesn't it?

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRROFLMAO!!

Good old BOB popped into my head as I was reading that!

I couldn't imagine Bob posing with Octo for a picture, but then I never dreamed he'd be in an Adam Sandler movie brawling like a hoodlum either, LOL

Everyone's complaining but how many stupid people are going to the sign and look into spaying and neutering their pets? probably a decent amount. I don't think it's wrong of her to have the sign up.

I really don't think PETA will ever gain mainstream acceptance. Unfortunately many people who just think they support animal rights or whatever will donate money and say the support them but as soon as people find out what they really stand for, the majority of people are not going to support that.

And even if they are PETA, they are right about spaying and neutering. Obviously not EVERY dog should be spayed and neutered, but 90% of dog owners are irresponsible and should not own any dog, much less an unaltered one.

Plus, I bet close to 50% of people who get a new dog and have never owned a dog before have no idea of any of the pros and cons of spaying and neutering, I bet a good portion don't even know what spaying and neutering is.

Anything that educates people is a good thing.

Oh, I've run into SO many people who think PETA might be doing good things overall . . . They don't need to be allowed to gain any acceptance in the mainstream public.

Anyone who looks to octomom as a guide SHOULD spay/neuter their pet.

I see nothing wrong with telling america as a whole to do it. The super informed people will do the research, and marketing tactics aren't going to change their mind. For the other 99% of America, they have no good reason not to fix the dog.

It's like all these campaigns now that say credit cards are bad, and people shouldn't have them. It's true, the average person probably SHOULDN'T have them. I'm responsible, and did my research though, so I have a couple cards in my wallet and no celebrity telling me to cut up my cards is going to change my mind.

The message to spay/neuter in and of itself is a GOOD message for the majority of pet owners, nothing at all wrong with the message. I don't even find anything wrong with jokingly using the octomom to deliver that message, LOL, but the messenger is another story ;)

You are correct. A very close friend of mine is a big animal supporter, she donates, she feeds every wild animal that comes around her place (she lives on 9 acres) and is a member to so many groups I've lost track.

Up until about 2 years ago, she was a BIG peta supporter as well. We had a little talk (she had a PETA calendar in her office and that started a conversation), I showed her some key points to be aware of ;) She was totally clueless as to certain agenda they had, and she isn't just a joe blow pet person..........she's involved!

Being an animal supporter and feeding wild animals is an oxymoron, really. It is not good to feed wild animals, as it can cause them a lot of harm on many levels...in all but a very few exceptions. For just a couple of examples: When people feed certain wild animals, they lose their fear of humans and it can wind up getting them shot and killed. Some animals lose their ability to find their own food when humans provide for them. Some animals need specific types of foods, depending on the season. I'm sure she thinks she's doing a good thing though. And that she donates and tries to help shows that she has her heart in the right place.

I think the general public should be made aware of the harm they cause when they're irresponsible about letting their pets reproduce. But yeah....that Peta has to get their foot in there is just one more annoyance I have with them. They cause more harm than good by a long shot.

And that is indeed an almost humorous irony. Octomom may not have heard, but there'a an over population of humans too, in this world.

I totally agree.

Coop, you say your friend supported PETA...how much damage was done by that? Did she give them money? You said she donates but was it to shelters or PETA?
