buying a home is stressful for a marriage. My goodness, this is so much work and we're only at picking our realtor!

How do you know when the realtor you've picked is the one? They all sound great on paper (which is obviously why we'll be meeting with them first) but geez, can't it all just be done already?

I just want my dream home.. that's all. Hmph.

Here's a simple test - give them the specs you want, (i.e. 3 bedroom, 2.5 baths, garage, 2 story, single, $250K max). If they show you One bedroom duplexes with on-street parking, 1.5 baths and costs $290K, you don't have the correct Realtor. Not that i Know that from experience. :)

Gotta agree with Eddie. There is noway to just "know" it's the right Realtor (at least not that I know of).........you have to give them a chance to prove or disprove they can do the job you want. Of course if you meet with them and get the heebie jeebies right off..........RUN AWAY! LOL

Good luck, and advice from one lady to the next.........DON'T SETTLE! You will be angry with yourself for years to come if you do. Trust me, there are a lot of things you won't like about your dream house after you live there awhile..........DON'T SETTLE FOR LESS THAN YOU HAVE IN MIND TO START WITH!!

There will be no settling here. We have a very clear idea of what we want with very little, if any, room for budging.

The first one I have contacted has already sent me 40 listings with our specs, so he definitely has what we want in mind. We're meeting with him tomorrow evening. :)

I'm just nervous about the whole thing... it's a bit scary. :yikes:

It is scary. It's most likely the biggest investment you will ever make, and if you do it right the first time, you probably won't have to go through it again! (unless you want to, LOL)

Ooooh, good luck!

We actually found our realtor through our mortgage broker... he gave her our information and she called us.

We're closing on July 31st (pending the home inspection goes well... which will be this week). We were really picky as well... we wanted 4 bedrooms, all tile/wood floors, fenced in yard, and after looking at 20 or so houses we found "the" house.

It's been very stressful, but it will be worth it in the end (I think, lol) :D

after looking at 20 or so houses we found "the" house.
I heard on HGTV that the average house hunter only looks at 7 homes, which seemed SO LOW! I feel as if when we're ready to buy a house, we'll be looking at 50 before we're comfortable putting in an offer...

Our poor future realtor.

Good luck, BP!

That's crazy!

Our realtor has taken us out house hunting for 4 different weekends, haha. We were just really picky, which is completely understandable when you're looking for your first home. I want to be able to stay in this home for a while... and I don't think we'll outgrow it for a long time.

The problem with looking at 50 houses is that if you always pass one up hoping to find better, by the time you realize you won't find better, it might be sold. I'm more the 'if this house fits, I'll put an offer on it' type, lol.

I agree that if she sent you 40 listings, it might be a good sign, but if she sent you a lot of listings that don't quite fit or are over your range, I'd reconsider it. A good realtor IMO will only send you listings for things that match exactly your criteria.

We didn't look at many either. In our price range there were a lot of major fixer-uppers and a few potential crack houses :yikes: and then our house.

I actually really like our house I just wish that it were in the middle of the country on 10 acres--lol.
