Tawny our husky didn't want to eat last night, just drink drink drink. Started to worry but thought it could be fireworks or the heat(even though she has been in the air conditioning all day!).

So this morning I take her out and she poops three times. Goes from solid to kinda mushy-looked like melted crunch bar texture, to looking like little ribbons. I bring her food out there and she drinks all her water and takes a couple pieces of food. I figured if she was gonna have the runs I would just sit out with her so I go grab a chair and her doggy pool and fill it up. She jumps right in and is trying to drink it faster than its going in.

She then eats a couple pieces of grass and vomits up a ton of water and the couple pieces of dog food she ate.

Problem is this is a dog that hates the vet. She will make herself sick just going for shots. I said a long time ago I would never be able to put her through surgery/boarding/we do shots at home for her, but now I am worried she might have a obstruction and ugh:eek:

Would it not be a gradual progression if it was diabetes? This is not a dog I can let out alone so she is the least likely to have gotten into any poison or anything. Its just odd for a dog with an obstruction to want to drink that much right?

She is out there acting fine and I am just bawling:( She is older but not that old. I think 11. I just have that feeling like when ginger got the lump. I feel like I am just over putting her down.

Vet said if whatever it is doesn't pass bring her in tomorrow- I feel horrible because no matter what she is going to be a mess, unless tonight she is eating and drinking normal again anyway:eek:

I don't know what I want -good thoughts and any ideas on what it may be. She has been keeping weight but looking older and gray, and for some reason has a weak topline like a horse gets

I don't have any ideas of what is going on--but I can send you good thoughts that she will perk up and things will get better. I can also offer a few hugs in your direction ((HUGS))

I's obvious that you are concerned but just try to relax. If the vet didn't tell you to get in right away then it's not bloat and that's a good thing.

Is she peeing frequently? If she is it could be a kidney infection.

Actually it could be a number of things but rather than think the worse, give her good vibes. If you're upset she'll be upset and that's not good for either of you.

She is peeing a lot now-but she also drank a lot. But it is too much. Now I am more worried about her kidneys than anything.

She ate some animal crackers and kept them down.

I am thinking diabetes we might be able to handle. But I dont know how bad she really is.

I am trying to relax now. I walked up to her with the crackers and she kinda stumbled and I freaked-but she just tripped on the leash:cool:

I keep wondering if maybe she has only been drinking and maybe letting the other dogs eat her food the last couple days. But she has been pooping normal up until now. I haven't paid that much attention:(

Darn pets, killing me slowly:thumbdown: At least the horses are not trying to kill themselves currently.

What makes you keep thinking diabetes?

There are so many possibilities, including a simple upset stomach.

I keep thinking kidney issue with the excessive drinking and how much she is urinating now-not necessarily diabetes. Kidney failure has all the symptoms she does right now to. Until I noticed the urinating I was stuck on obstruction.

Our vets out till tomorrow(at least I think thats what he said,i'll try back during evening hours tonight and see if I can catch him or if he is there for the kennel) The one that is open is the one who treated our beagle for heartworm when she didn't have it so I am not going to go there. If she acts like she is in pain there is another one I can get to but if she is just drinking and peeing I am going to wait.

It could just be an upset stomach and I am paranoid. Which is why I am not going absolutely nuts right now spending 2,000 to take her to the e vet.

I'd also be worried about something like pancreatitis. There are so many things it could be..running her in for a basic blood panel wouldn't hurt

If your dog is drinking lots of water she might be feeling some sort of discomfort...its best you take to some vet...

Sounds a whole lot like pancreatic attack to me. It burns terribly and they drink trying to put the fire out in their belly. Pull that water, the drinking and then vomiting will dehydrate your dog. You can try ice chips and see if that stays down. If not you best see your vet. I almost lost Mary to her first attack. 24 hours of iv antibiotics fixed her as good as new. After that I became very aware of what set off her attacks and what did not and was able to watch her diet carefully to keep it from happening again.

She passed a big hairball/hard poo late last night and now seems to be fine.

She ate about a cup of food after that and drank normal, had normal poo this morning. Did not want to eat a lot of dog food this morning but would eat any people food I gave her. Not drinking or peeing a ton anymore.

She is spayed.

Our vet isn't necessarily a mobile vet but he does farm animals on Wednesdays. So she has gotten seen with the horses in the past;)

He said if she keeps it up bring her in for bloodwork-but she likely just stressed/hurt her digestive tract pushing the hair ball through.

How much chicken and rice do I make? I have a feeling she would be fine eating dog food and just wants people food, but vet said it may still all be inflamed. Said as long as she is drinking not to worry.

My brother came to see her last night(really his dog but he moved into an apartment) and she acted like nothing was wrong.I think he thought I was nuts:cool: I'm kinda putting the decision to take her in or not onto him now.
