Anybody happen to watch the Canadiens - Bruins game last night. If you did, you know what I am talking about.

I have no horse in this particular race, but if the NHL does not suspend Chara for at least 10 games....

The following link contains video of a very violent hit. You will see, Chara (the Bruins guy, a HUGE dude) throw the Canadiens player right into the divider. The puck was 3 seconds away (a penalty all by itself you can only make contact with the puck carrier) from him and it SEEMS like Chara purposely shoved him into the divider. The Canadiens players was out cold for well over a minute. When I first saw it, I thought he killed him. :O

Max Pacioretty taken off ice on stretcher - NHL.com - News

ETA: The end of the video, the reverse angle is where you can see Chara throw him into it. It makes my heart skip a beat just to see it.

I've played and watched this game since I was 5. I've NEVER seem anything that scary. I've seen a close second (cut throat), but never a hit that seemed so blatantly an intent to injure.

Ugh.

OH man. That was insane. I know I said this a millions times yesterday and this morning but I just want to know what the h#ll he was thinking. LIke what could have POSSIBLY been going through his mind to DO that. What did he think the outcome would be? surely he didnt' think he could almost KILL someone... but what did he THINK WAS GONNA HAPPEN.

I do have a horse in this race... so take it for what it's worth but the league better address this. when I first saw it happen and the ten million replays after I didn't see the shove.. I was watching Max's face bounce off the divider :O and I thought Nah that was just bad timing.. no one would do that on purpose.

and then I saw the shove... he WAITED. He actually came up beside him and waited to shove him and then shoved him right as he got to the divider. I just don't understand what he was thinking.

that was just crazy. LIke you said... if it weren't for everyone on the ice being calm while attending to him I thought he might have been dead too. that was SCARY. it's a miracle that he's not paralyzed on top of being alive.

Prayers to Max for a speedy recovery. This is going to hurt the habs having him out. I don't want to be Chara if he ever plays another game at the Bell Center

Oh wow! I hope that guy is alright :(

It reminds me of my last softball game. Our player playing first had a pop up a little off the side of the line, and the girl running took a step out of her way, shoulder down, and bowled her over. It was SO stupid.

She got out for player interference :p

Just looking at it, the shove isn't a big deal. But then you realize it was into the DIVIDER. Really Chara? It's not even like it was a snap decision or accidental. He seems very purposeful.

it really does doesn't it

When I first saw it I wasn't watching what Chara was doing. I was watching Pacioretty and I figured it was just a hit gone wrong and with their history he probably was targeting him but probably just wrong place wrong time... and then when I watched Chara it really does look like that was his intention. He actually looked like he was waiting it out to make the shove at just the right moment.

still makes me shudder

Yes. The shove all by itself is no biggie. Its WHEN he chose to do it. It looks like he saw exactly what was going to happen. I doubt Chara wanted to actually hurt him like that... But, what did he think might happen?

Stuff like this is happening more and more in the NHL today. Sure, its a physical game and doo doo happens. This was intentional.

The NHL NEEDS to start bringing the hammer down on this kind of crap. If they want new fans, they HAVE to.

I'd sit him the rest of the regular season, at least.

LOL my brother and I are in complete disagreement. he thinks it was a perfectly fine hit ... I told him that I was gonna punch him in the arm next time I see him HAHA

My dad is being non committal. "well I think it was an accident but I didn't see the slow motion so you could be right"

I am right dammit LOL

but I was wrong about one thing... I thought Chara swept the puck but upon further inspection he didn't... Patches did BUT that's besides the point. Chara knew the puck was gone. That's why it was an interference call... Patches wasn't the puck carrier but that didn't stop Zdeno.

I don't know. He said he knew they were in that area, but didn't know he was pushing him into the divider. Its possible, but I think he should have known. You need to know where the puck is (gone) and where on the ice you are. The all- star apparently knew neither?

Something to note about how the NHL makes decisions on things like this.

The NHL has a policy that when using video replay for purposes other than allow/disallow of a goal, ONLY real time footage can be used. This is because still shots and slow motion can make things appear differently. Slow-Mo and stills can change the context.

That said... Chara better be in for some BAD news.

yep

To Quote Carey Price

Everybody's aware of what's what out there. I don't care what anybody says, you're aware of your surroundings.
If you made it to the NHL... YOu know where you are on the ice. You are intimately familiar with it

Unbelieveable....

An ILLEGAL play was made. The play resulted in a life altering injury to a 22 year old player, with a very promising future.

Nothing. Nada.

Whats his face at the NHL said "I did not see anything 'suspendable' in the play." WTF? INTENT DOES NOT MATTER. It should not matter what Chara's intent was... The RESULTS is what should matter.

And yes... Chara is a 13 year NHL veteran. He is an elite player among the best in the world. He had to know exactly what he was doing.

What a embarrassing day for the NHL.

Nothing suspendable about the play  Other than the play was already a penalty and then he almost killed someone making an illegal play?

nothing wrong with that at all

Whether Chara intended for Pacioretty to hit the divider or not, that was an extremely dangerous and risky hit to make. For the most part, I like Chara, I think he's a well rounded player (the 2002 Sens with Chara and Hossa was a killer team)...but that hit deserves a suspension.

Chara should have been suspended. If it had been just a small "get out of my way" brush off and Pacioretty had somehow lost balance and collided with the boards, then I can see no suspension. But Chara full on shoved him, deliberately. It would actually have been a pretty normal hit had it not taken place where it did. And Chara had to have been well aware of it. He can play dumb all he wants, but I don't buy it. A player as good as he is and has been playing as long as he has knows exactly what he is doing. That was just a brutal and dangerous play and there should have been consequences.
