such a senseless tragedy:( There just are no words:(

The shooters father lives in Stamford with his 2nd wife. The brother, lives in Hoboken NJ.

My husbands boss's daughter lives in Newtown, she is or was a teacher (not sure if she still works) , and has a couple young kids that go to this school..I don't know if they are ok, since I don't want to bother his boss by calling..Afraid to know:(

It's horrible to think someone could do something like that to kids ... KIDS!

There is a special place in hell for those types of ppl, IMHO they shouldn't even get a trial (tho I believe he shot himself ) but if he would have he shouldn't have gotten a trial, I would hate to be a defense lawyer on that one

The names are released, so if you know the name/last name, you could find out

Ugh, I was Christmas shopping for our nieces and nephews today and I just kept thinking of all those kids who won't get to have Christmas this year, and all the families for whom the meaning of Christmas will be forever altered due to this tragedy. :(

I think it would be nice if some well-off individual offered the funds to build a Rememberance Garden (prayer garden...what have you) at the school. A little area with a monument or fountain, and maybe a different kind of flower for each child and adult slain in the attack. Just my thoughts...

morgan freeman said:
yesterday’s shooting was beyond tragic words alone cannot convey the sympathy and horror felt due to the event. Across facebook people have been posting frantically about gun control and placing the blame on the fact god has been taken out of school.

This examiner happened to stumble across the words of morgan freeman and his thoughts on the event on friday as well as other mass shootings.

Morgan freeman:

"you want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.

It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the batman theater shooter and the oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan klebold and eric harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of columbine? Disturbed

people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

Cnn's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind virginia tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox news has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that i've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news."

freeman’s words give pause for thought and reflection. I pose this question to the reader: What do you think? Are people seeking attention and notoriety because of the way the media portrays them? People who commit suicide often feel like they are alone and a nobody. In this case did lanza decide he wanted to go down in history books by making his name synonymous with monstrosity?

I’m not sure we will ever truly know why the events unfolded the way they did. Let’s take freeman’s advice and remember the names of the children we lost.

Wow Danefied, I hadnt' seen that one yet. Quite a read and so sad about the state of our care for the mentally ill. Everyone screams "GET RID OF THE GUNS" but you are only dealing with a side effect instead of fixing the REAL problem.

Another thing I saw posted on facebook. WARNING: religious content. I am NOT trying to be controversial but I just found it beautiful and incredibly touching and just a lovely way to picture these beautiful children instead of picturing the last moments of pure hell they went through

Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38 when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate. Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air. They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there. They were filled with such joy; they didn't know what to say. They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day. “where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse. “This is heaven" declared a small boy. "We’re spending Christmas at God's houseâ€. When what to their wondering eyes did appear, but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near. He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same. Then He opened His arms and He called them by name. And in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring those children all flew into the arms of their King and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace, one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face. And as if He could read all the questions she had He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad. “then He looked down on earth, the world far below He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe, then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand, “Let My power and presence re-enter this land! “May this country be delivered from the hands of fools†“I’m taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools! “Then He and the children stood up without a sound. “Come now my children let me show you around. “Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran. All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can. And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight, “in the midst of this darkness,†I AM STILL THE LIGHT."
I read this and then asked Brian if he had his glasses. he asked why and I said "You need to read this. I would read it to you but I won't make it through the whole thing without crying"

That brought tears to my eyes as well. Having recently lost my horse, I have no doubts that Indie is up there giving them all "pony" rides.

But, I don't understand why ppl (other then the victims & their families of course ... In their cases I can understand) would take down their Christmas/ hanukah decorations because they "felt bad for celebrating" because This season is about love, kindness & giving ... Something I think those poor families need so much right now.

People took down their decorations? I hadn't heard that.

We put ours up today and my mon said "everyone needs to put up lights and light them so those babies can look down and see them" :)

Yes, some in the community (other then the victims & their families or friends ... There I could understand) thought it not in good taste to celebrate Christmas or their respective religious holiday in wake of the tragedy.

I could understand why the families/friends of the victims wouldn't want a Christmas tree around thinking their son/daughter would never get to open their presents ... It must be horrible :( I cAnt even imagine :(.

I lost 2 good, kind old horses one in 2001 the other in 2009 both were gentle souls that loved kids ... I'd like to think they too are up there giving pony rides & being loved on by those kids.

Keep your ears open, lotsa bells are going to be ringing this year because a lot of little Agnes are going to be getting their wings. Wonderful post by the way, lets not pray solely for the children for they have been delivers into the loving arms of the savior, but think more for the families & loved ones they left behind... They need prayers & wishes of strength the most right now.

From what I understand, it is a small/tight-knit community. To them, they DID lose one of their own.

Seems as though the school will be closed forever. I somewhat figured that would be the best route -- no child or adult would want to go back in there after what they've been through.

If I were a multi-millionaire/billionaire, I'd pay for them to bulldoze the school and rebuild, while including a large playground and garden area dedicated to those who lost their lives.

There is NO way I could go into that school knowing my child, or any other child or adult lay in that very slot on the floor and died. It's not fair to the living to ask them to do that.
