So my story about pets over the last year to year and a half.... To answer the question, right now we have one dog, a Golden Retriever, and a cat. At the end of 2016 we had four furry family members, and a little human family member on the way. During the pregnancy we lost two of our fur babies. Our kitten was the first of the two, she was the sweetest little bundle of fur I have ever held! She wasn't even a year old yet when she just stopped eating and started losing weight rapidly. She wasn't that big to begin with. When we took her to the vet, we were told that in the doc's 20 years of experience with both cats and dogs this little kitten was only the third case of the condition he had seen....I was such a wreak that the name of the condition went over my head. But basically, she had a genetic defect that caused her diaphragm to rupture. All of her intestines had moved up into the chest cavity and had become twisted. The vet wouldn't even chance surgery, he said it would only be torture to her. A week later we lost Sam (mixed-breed of who knows what) due to old age. ....sorry for the sad rambling, I'm still hung up on the loss. So, let me talk about the blessings we have instead. After a difficult pregnancy we welcomed our little girl into the world, and she came home to join our dog Ginger, and our cat Cosmo. Neither one seems too fond of the two-legged addition (Ginger and Cosmo aren't fond of each other to begin with). Which is really heartbreaking because our little girl LOVES animals! She wants so badly to snuggle and love on our animals, and they really don't want anything to do with her....they leave the room if she starts crawling to them. So, we are on the search for another four-legged family member who will be a patient and loving companion to our human baby. I'm very interested in knowing if anyone has an opinion about Chaz and toddlers/young children. A distant uncle of mine had one years ago, I vaguely remember the dog.
