Hi,
a new website was just launched for dog breeders and dog lovers. K9Ring.com is an online community of purebred dog breeders where breeders can create their own profile pages that feature and promote their kennel and their dogs. These profile pages can be used to showcase your dogs, as well as, an access point for people looking for reputable breeders and the services that they offer. Visit us at www.K9Ring.com and let us help you find good homes for your puppies or adult dogs. Registration is free!

The main objective of this website is to help dog breeders find good homes for their puppies or adult dogs, connect with other breeders, and help those looking for a puppy to quickly find a responsible breeder.
Do you do anything to screen the breeders that are on your site?

Every breeder who registers and provides a website is checked to make sure they are not running a puppy mill. We basically visit each breeder's website and make sure that they are breeding with the betterment of the breed in mind. There is a rating system where breeders and their dogs can be rated. Also, anyone can write breeder reviews. That way we make sure only reputable breeders stick to the top. If anyone reports a breeder as not being professional or is providing false information, we remove that breeder from our directory.

How on earth can that be determined from viewing a website?

As I said, there is also a rating system in place as well as people can write reviews about breeders. We check their websites just to make sure they are not running a puppy mill. It is very easy to tell which breeder is reputable just by checking their years in business and how often they breed and show their dogs. We do our best to make sure only purebred dog breeders register and aid the users in finding a reputable breeder. It is up to the person looking for a puppy or breeder to contact the breeder and make sure that the breeder is responsible and will be there every step of the way during the puppy's development stages and growth.

Majority of our breeders are AKC or CKC registered. We accept any breeds that are recognized by AKC, CKC, UKC, or FCI.

So me with my JRTCC/JRTCA registered dogs (with all health checks, guarantees and me having signed the breed club's code of ethics and titles in all sorts of events..) means nothing?

Sucks for working dogs.

IMO you would be better of worried about the quality of breeder than the registering body.

Errr, it's going to be a rare incidence that a REPUTABLE breeder of a breed recognized by the common registries is going to need help finding a good home for their dogs. A reputable breeder should have a waiting list.

That may be true to some extent, but you are forgetting that some of them do not have their own website and they want to get a greater exposure on the Internet. On the Internet, they can meet many more people and other breeders and share information and tips with each other. They do not have to just advertise their puppies, they can advertise the services that they offer. Also, there are many dog show judges who visit websites that feature different breeders and they may want to promote their kennel and catch the eye of the judges.

Actually IMHO, I think that being a member of any of these clubs does not mean much, including AKC and CKC. To be a member, you are supposed to follow some set of rules that they set, and pay them a membership fee. Quite often, the more money you pay and the more people you know, the better your dog places which is sad. It is good to see that someone is registered with these clubs to give some assurance that they at least follow some rules, but I would not judge a breeder just based on what club they joined. I would sit with the breeder and find out myself what they are all about and ask for references from other people who already got puppies from this breeder.

Ah see this is important. (not that I am pro/against advertising.. IMO good breeders-even those with long waiting lists-need to be easily accessible to the public) Some breed clubs have worked long and hard to stay out of kennel clubs.

In the JRT world you can't just breed two reg JRTs together and automatically get reg puppies. You can't reg any dog under a year. You must send in a health survey from your vet with signed (by the vet) conformation pics as well as copies of health testing. If your dog fails any of these tests, or is questionable.. no reg for you. If the dog's conformation is out of breed standard.. no reg for you. The JRTCC has a very very active breed rescue that works closely with the club. If breeders dogs show up in rescue they get sent to the breeder.

On the other hand any JRT (even thick bodied short legged ones) can be recorded with proof of spay/neuter and can play at all terrier trials.

IMO this is a much better set up than the kennel clubs.

I agree with you. I am not a breeder myself, but from what I have heard and seen, there are cases where a breeder is given preferential treatment just because they have been a member of a kennel club for a long time, which equals more money for the kennel club. Also, if you are friends with the judges, then of course your dogs will always be at the top of the rankings. What I am trying to say is, in the end, it is all business and sometimes whom you know and how much money you have plays a role in what you eventually accomplish.

New updates

We added a blog and a store recently to k9ring.com. We now have over 300 registered purebred dog breeders and the community keeps growing. Find a breeder in your area and send them a private message or post a message on their Message Wall. You can also communicate with the breeders using the forums. Stay tuned for more updates in the near future.

I'm sorry, but in looking at the great dane breeders you've allowed to post ads on your site, I would suggest you go back and revise your "acceptance" standards. All you have posted for dane breeders are BYB's.....well known byb's amongst the dane community.

See, that's the problem - it takes a lot of breed involvement to be able to see through the smokescreens of many BYBs. A big website like this could cause more harm that good, by featuring a bad breeder that is able to sneak past your "acceptance standards". Just another example of people wanting someone else to do the legwork, with the same result - you get what you put the effort into getting. With little or no effort, good luck - it's really a crapshoot. I'd never rely on a website to tell me if a breeder is good or not.

They did not post ads. Those are their profile pages and we do not charge for those pages. Tell us what breeder(s) you think are BYB and we'll remove them upon further investigation. We can also say that someone is BYB just to make them look bad but we need proof. You should always research about the breeder first before making any purchases or decisions. The website is there to help you find a breeder in your area, not to tell you who is your best choice. I think that with common sense and some background on the specific breed, you can make that decision yourself. What we can do is try to weed out BYB from responsible breeders.

Ya thanks but no thanks. I'll stick with doing my own research on breeders when that time comes. I'm not going to rely on some website breeder list like this.
