Hi - my name is Crystal. I'm new here but I've been looking around this site for the last little bit & I already love it!! Here's the story on why I'm posting: I'm an animal lover, I have several (5 dogs, 2 cats, 1 cow, 4 horses, 1 fish). More than that I'm a dog lover, to be more specific I'm a boxer lover. I have 2 registered boxers that are my BABIES. Where I'm employed I work hand-in-hand with our local animal warden (among other things). I have to hear all of the horror stories that goes on behind the scenes here about neglect & abuse & overpopulation & euthanization etc. I love my job but that particular part of it tugs at my heart daily. Just recently we had a call come in from a gentleman reporting neglect/abuse of 2 dogs by a tennant of his rental property. Our AW went & checked it out & sure enough it was bad, real bad. I'll spare you specifics but in the end the female boxer had to be euthanized & my husband and I are fostering the male to keep the same from happeing to him. I guess he's apx 5 months old and he's turning out to be the sweetest little angel. We've pretty much already talked ourselves into adopting him when the time comes (when he's healthy enough for permant adoption). (I think I have some pics of him posted on my profile if your interested-beware they may be graphic because he was so thin when he was picked up). This little guy has gone through so much in his short little life that we think he needs the most distinguished and honorable name imaginable. We don't want to name him sparkey or chip or fido - not that those aren't fine names - but he needs somehting PROUD. That's our delimma. We've thought and thought to no avail...still nothing. Can anyone help, it's been almost 2 weeks already. PS incase it matters - he's apx 5 mo's old, solid white with chocolate brindle over his left eye and ear & just a spot on his tail, long tail (not docked) and long ears (not cropped) and he's deaf. Sometimes it helps to name them when you know a little more about them.
I'm open to any ideas and suggestions...your help will be SOOOO appreciated!!

What a beautiful dog!! I love Boxers!!!

Going with the Churchill idea: What about Winston? I named one of my Corgi puppies that, but when he went to his new home they changed it to Max. :D

He sounds like he is definitely special! I did a quick search on dog names that have a historical basis and here are a few:

Caeser
Churchill
Cromwell
Edison
Einstein
Lincoln
Nero
Napolean
Patton
Plato
Truman

WOW!! Those are all such great dog names. I appreciate the responses soooo much! Just a little update - I weighed him last night he's gained 10 lbs in almost 2 weeks, he's finally started barking a little (we were getting worried he didn't know how since he's deaf) and we've finally gotten him to jump in our laps on command - well sort of :p . Because he's not had much human interaction he didn't know he was allowed to be hugged and loved on and romped. We're trying to show him it's okay to be affectionate cause you can tell he's dying to be!! I wish he'd show more interest in playing - it kills me that he doesn't know how...I've never had a dog that didn't know what a ball was or a chew toy. All he interested in is being heald and kissed. O-well I know, I know...in time. I'll try to take some more recent pictures of him tonight and put on here.

You know, looking at the photo you posted of his profile, I think Churchill or Winston fits him beautifully.

I think you're right about him being very special - just as special as the people who are giving him the new life he deserves! ;)

Thanks so much for the link - there are some really great names on there. I think the majority is for Winston or Churchill so far. I really like Dante too. I've already mentioned that one to my husband before and he said he didn't like it but I think I'm going to keep trying for it. Churchill sounds a lot like an ex boyfrinds last name (bad blood there too) & every time I say it sounds like I'm takling about him. I like that name but I don't think that will be it. I like Winston and Dante and we're throwing around some names that has to do with cars (my husband and I both are real big into drag racing and car shows-he races, I show). These suggestions are really helpful...keep em coming!! (I;m really really likeing the Dante one!!)

I like: ALEKSANDER It's Russian It mean's Defender of men. I don't know if other countries do this but here in France we name our pets with a "year letter" for example 2005 is the letter A, 2006 B, so we know instantly how old a dog is by it's name! I think it's a good idea personally!

That is a neat idea but what if you wanted to name your dog Zoolander? Or Zebra? Or Wizard?

You would name it "A" Wizard you have to put the A before the name you want on the dogs paperwork.

LOL I'm not that patient. And what if it was a B year? B Wizard. I guess I could call him Beautiful Wizard and call him Wizard. FYI These aren't names I've contemplated before. LOL
