I told my neighbor i had a proposition for him. IF he took down that last section of privacy fence that was doing no one any good, and ugly as heck, and leaning to boot, i would plant more tomatoes there and he could have any he wanted. That fence blocks so much sunlight, i have wanted it gone for years.
He had it out of there in a wink of an eye, and said he loved home grown tomatoes and really missed his Grandfather's. So, Hyia and i went down to the river and retrieved more sticks. I am not done, it needs some here and there, but i am as happy as a clam. Now my sunny area has doubled.

I asked him how he felt about the stick fence i had started (not the addition) and he said he liked it. Which is good. I told him it won't show much in a month. THe Arkansas Traveler will take up the first third, tomatoes and this little melon vine that Baker Creek sent as a free gift with my seeds will hopefully take the rest.
Star Phlox, Cherry caramel phlox, asters, lettuce, peas, okra, zinnia, sunflowers (which i am spacing a week apart) and more, all up and looking good. For tomatoes this year, we have the orange peach, yellow pepper tomato, german pink, a variey of yellow, cherokee purple, and a couple others my friend is going to swap me. Most of those will go in the garden at the Y, but a few will be as promised planted here. All cucumbers and more of those melons will go to the y as well. On my other stick fence. Hyia and i will go back to the river and retrieve the last of what we collected tomorrow. Today, i was bushed, and enough was enough. Still we got it up and ready to go before the sun set.

I also transplanted most everybody, and two of my three cuttings of the harry lauder's walking stick have taken. Plus one hibiscus (perrenial) has grown from the seeds Cindy gave me. I told my grandson AIden that i would grow him a red flower big enough to be a hat. FIngers crossed. Nanna likes to keep her promises. I would like to have one here too.
The bees are going to happy here. I did say monarchs and ditch the planting idea of their milk weed. I have too many animal grazers to even take the chance. It is thick all long the river, and down by the swamp at the bottom of the hill, i want to contribute but i don't want a poisoned blind boy at the same time and he likes to graze like a goat.

I saw a topiary of a sleeping cat on facebook, wonders of the world or something like that. I am so intrigued, and looking at two honey suckles behind my shade garden that are close enough together, i would really like to try. I hope they fix my leaking roof to my apartment so i can stay long enough to give it a go.

THe landlord said i could grow anything i wanted just as long as i didnt' go all the way across. So i have kept my word, and anyway, i keep that part trimmed as well as 4 inches from all beds, so it is no more work for the lawn mowing man. He has no problem with me what so ever. Can't wait to have my gaint sentries sunflowers back. I hope this will be a good year for them. So far we have had no rain, my whole goal has been to bump up the soil, top dress, and mulch as much as humanly possible.

The rest of that ugly rotten fence would make no difference since the building shades it anyway and besides that is not my area of yard.

Just wish they would bloom forever but they are almost done. Maybe next time this year my deer will be filled in, and fingers crossed, the sweet william will keep spreading. I had a vision of what it would look like if it were all the way across the back. I planted it at the base of several trees and all seem to really like it here. I put wild pink phlox behind the deer which should make her look like she is just stepping out of the flowers, but i like the ones where he muzzle is best.
First leaves have made it down her neck and to her forehead, so by summers end i hope she will look like a real topiary girl.

If it went all the way across it would be really pretty with the green of the honeysuckle behind. I wish i had a bucket load of seeds, but i don't so will have to be patient.

Victor says they smell good. He was over muzzle to muzzle with the deer this morning. Just standing there. I know what he was doing. I saw Mary and NEccy do the same with the iris. I need to drag her little fawn out from under the big bush and find it a honeysuckle sprout to fill in too.

Strawberry blooms and spring beauties look like they giggle in the breeze.

My doctor said my garden looked like home. He is from Mexico. SO my garden at the community plots is now called Little Mexico. The grandchildren said they wanted PICKLES and their Mama said she would do the process if i grew them.
So this is why i need a lot of trellis. They eat a lot of pickles.

Said the spider to the fly..this is why ...this is why. I sure hope this works. It should.

I was given a couple bunches of onions so i waited until Hy got home since she is the big onion lover. I told her one side was hers to do with as she wants. She dug it up and put her onions in and wants to plant other things which is great. SHe worked with a good attitude today setting those in and moving mulch.

I was relieved when the lady that runs the community garden said they liked my stick trellis. Relief. I was afraid they might ask me to take it down. She said she thought it was cool.

On the home front, it is all about mulch at this point. Lettuce, peas, okra, maters, cucumbers, little melons, beets, rat tail raddish, and sunflowers all read to go. The flower list is too long but i am so excited.

My grandson (5) said my garden needed decorations like the others. Another person said Little Mexico needed some pottery. So...... I had made these for Daddy for a windchime for Father's day, but there is plenty time to make more. The hands have the I love You sign. It was what my son and daughter and I always used to wave goodbye. I thought, maybe it would make them happy. ANyway in all truth, i hate veggies, i am doing this for them to help stretch the budget, but more importantly, to hope to plant a seed of wonder in their hearts, that is what it is for me. I may not like eating any of it, but i sure as heck love growing it for them.

Baylee is my little veggie girl, she hates cheese, and loves lettuce. So that is how it goes. And here are my "decorations.". Much work to do today, waiting for Hyia to come join me.

I still need to make her hand and my grandson (7) Zoen. Each picked out how they wanted their hand to be. Aiden wanted spiderman, Jory wanted red, Zoen blue, and so on.

I put a really big limb in the back, i am hoping i can get one of my head bowls to position on the top, it would be a way too fun scarecrow for me. I was going to use the black clay one, but i am afraid down there it would just boil the roots, so i will make one out of a lighter color, and add holes int he side for affixing to the top of the limb. Been wanting to do that for a long time.

People's reactions are so funny. Some think it is a o k, and others, put their nose up in the air and walk past me like i smell bad. all well. I know, it won't show in a month and it will do the job, and it cost 17 dollars for a thing of twine. End of story, that was all i had to invest. The seeds were my Christmas present from my Mother. I never did follow a common path. Everthing is up and looking good and that is the only thing that matters. Hyia is happy, and really involving herself this time, and that is the whole point of everything.

This doesnt hurt either, found my heart rock with two holes in it. Thought it might bring some luck. That along with a border of clover that grows four leaf clovers is stacking the deck.

I was surprised when i made those hands for the children that Jory's, Zoen's and Aiden's hands are either bigger or the same size as mine.

everyone working hard putting nasturiums on both sides of the cucumber vines.

Aiden said "I am not a farmer, i am a Planter".
ok
Plant you now dig you later like a tater...it's all for the little people.
I am so glad we are able to share in this together.

We had a great rain all night and a mist all day, so things should go quickly now. My garden will not have straight rows. My garden will be a crazy quilt and that's OK with me. WE added two wire lions to roar away the ground hogs that come into the garden with glee. Aiden thought it needed MORE decorations, so this is what we came up with.
last night i had to get up and look closer out the window, it seems way to early for lightening bugs but there were little lights everywhere up into the top of the trees. Sooooooo pretty.

It's bedtime for baby skinks.

somebody else is wanting a second turn for today. THis morning, left him with some sore toes. HE is too quick to take out for skink crossing time (even on his leash) so he will have to wait.

no worry to you either, good night.

no worry for snakes in this place.

new meaning to the words sleep tight.

that was last evenings guests. Today is going to be spent putting dirt back around oh so many that were washed out in a river of water with bucket loads of hail. Haven't looked at the hosta yet, one year it hailed them into a shredded salad. Hopefully this year the leaves on the trees took most of the brunt. That's enough rain please for a day or two. Lettuce will love it.
