Hey!

I have a new to the house 10 month old female great dane. She is dominant.

My 3 current dogs:

Beau, 13yr old neutered male lab, still being fed first out of respect. Discussions on quality of life, etc. already begun.

Lacie, 9yr old neutered female mastiff/rott, the one who gets the most face washing, etc. fed second. not obviously dominant. very quiet demeaner, unless her 'baby' Willow is involved. Fed 2nd.

Willow, 4yr old neutered female beagle, baby of the house with visions of grandeur... spoiled by the introduction of a big clumsy dominant female. Fed 3rd.

We are, as you might imagine, having some barking, whining, taunting (by big new girl) pack disharmony currently. My question is.... where do I fit the new big girl into the feeding pecking order. Last night, my husband fed her last, out of habit. The night before, I fed her first.....what do you recommend. I know she is destined to be the doggy first. If I make it so now, will that decrease the unrest?

Welcome!! Make sure you post pictures of your pack!!

I would feed her last. The last dog I got is always fed last. The other two eat first because they were here first, and are above her in our pack.

Hello and welcome to the forum

I would feed the dog when ever you want to your the boss. If it was a 7 week old puppy you would be feeding it 4 times a day so it does not really matter who gets fed first or last.

Welcome to the forum. Love the pic. Is that you 'little' pup? I have two pits (both nuetered). Ice is 2 1/2 and 55lbs. Rufus is the 'puppy', 16mo and 84lbs. I wish I could advise you, but my dogs eat at the same time and share the same bowl. Ice has always been good with Rufus since he first arrived. We worried there'd be problems, because he'd eventually dominate her. But far so good. I imagine it get much more complicated with 4 dogs with a range of ages like yours. Sounds like things are simmering down from you last post. I am no expert, so I am just wondering; what about feeding them in different areas? Like maybe in another room or even outside? Or would that outcast her? Maybe there'd be even more issues. Good luck. And welcome.
