She's an 8 year old majority-Arabian Quarter Horse / Arab cross, grade so we're not sure on exact percentages but definitely more typey toward Arab. Nothing fancy at all - her breeding is probably questionable, she's a
teensy bit cow-hocked imo (not enough for it to be a serious structural issue, though, she's quite sound), etc. But, she got glowing reviews from her previous owners of five years who at one point did a lot of trail and in-town riding with her, I like her build overall and based on the work I've done with her so far she seems smart, willing and energetic so I'm pretty pleased. I wasn't actually looking for a horse just yet, I just ran into her ad by chance and she was an unusually good match for me for this area* being sold for an unusually low price** so I kind of made an impulse buy. Two weeks on I've yet to regret it and don't have any reason to think I will.
* I live in the US Midwest so most horses with some miles under them in my current price range are dowdy, pokey Western Pleasure-trickle down stock horse types. I learned riding as a kid/teenager that I like a hotter horse because I enjoy a good, long canter and prefer uphill builds and longer legs because I do enjoy jumping. So the typical QH in my area just doesn't suit my style well and an Arab-type is much more on point, but also much rarer to find.
** She had actually been pastured for a year because her primary rider is having health problems, and they decided to try and sell off a lot of their animals quickly this spring because of their medical expenses, to avoid getting into a situation where they couldn't care for them properly. Hence that unusually low price. It's very unfortunate for them because they seem like nice people, but sort of means that things came full circle for me because their situation is near precisely the one my family was in when we got out of horse ownership.
