I got a new baby!! Meet Gitana :) She's a 7 month old (as of today!) Paso Fino x Andalusian filly. I'm super excited about her! She's pretty fuzzy and baby awkward of course but she'll be a gorgeous beast one day ;)

These photos are from our ride today, she gets to follow along since we can get out to conservancy land from our place without going on the road at all, and I almost never see anyone else out there. She loves it!!

Gorgeous pictures as always! Is the new girl gaited?

I am not sure yet! She is 3/4 Paso Fino so it is very likely. She hasn't displayed it yet but I'm under the impression that it sometimes won't show up until they are under saddle.

Either way, I don't care too much. She moves really nice so far!

Very interesting. I have close to zero experience with gaited horses, but I'm intrigued by them. There are quite a few Icelandics in our area, but not much else that I've seen. It will be fun to see how she grows up!

Love her!

Your place just looks amazing!! So beautiful there!!

I also have zero experience with gaited horses! This is very new to me, haha. I loved her Andalusian grandfather and her Paso x Andalusian sire, I never had really looked into Pasos all that much, but when this opportunity came along I had to jump on it. I also have a huge soft spot for Duns so that's a plus!

She's really cute! <3

Thanks!

Thank you! Definitely feel super lucky to be here.

Do you have any photos of the grandsire and sire you'd be allowed to share?

I actually just purchased my first horse since we sold ours due to hospital bills when I was 16, so I'm in a super horse-y mood. :p

Oh that's super exciting, tell me about your new horse!

This is her sire, I don't have any photos of him fully mature as he was sold at 3.

I think he's about 3 here

Horses are such beautiful animals. I read horses as a kid a little (my great uncle and aunt are very into horses) but I don't have any REAL experience with them. I think they're gorgeous and seem very fun though. Her grandsire looks incredible.

I can definitely see why you would have jumped at the chance to own her. I like her mother especially, she seems like quite an elegant little thing. Thanks a lot for sharing.

She's an 8 year old majority-Arabian Quarter Horse / Arab cross, grade so we're not sure on exact percentages but definitely more typey toward Arab. Nothing fancy at all - her breeding is probably questionable, she's a teensy bit cow-hocked imo (not enough for it to be a serious structural issue, though, she's quite sound), etc. But, she got glowing reviews from her previous owners of five years who at one point did a lot of trail and in-town riding with her, I like her build overall and based on the work I've done with her so far she seems smart, willing and energetic so I'm pretty pleased. I wasn't actually looking for a horse just yet, I just ran into her ad by chance and she was an unusually good match for me for this area* being sold for an unusually low price** so I kind of made an impulse buy. Two weeks on I've yet to regret it and don't have any reason to think I will. ;)

* I live in the US Midwest so most horses with some miles under them in my current price range are dowdy, pokey Western Pleasure-trickle down stock horse types. I learned riding as a kid/teenager that I like a hotter horse because I enjoy a good, long canter and prefer uphill builds and longer legs because I do enjoy jumping. So the typical QH in my area just doesn't suit my style well and an Arab-type is much more on point, but also much rarer to find.

** She had actually been pastured for a year because her primary rider is having health problems, and they decided to try and sell off a lot of their animals quickly this spring because of their medical expenses, to avoid getting into a situation where they couldn't care for them properly. Hence that unusually low price. It's very unfortunate for them because they seem like nice people, but sort of means that things came full circle for me because their situation is near precisely the one my family was in when we got out of horse ownership.

Yeah I really like her mom too! I hadn't really checked her out before going to meet 3-month old Gitana last fall, but she's very pretty.

Here are a few more pics of her...she rears on cue, clearly haha

She sounds like a score! Do you have any photos of her? I adore Arabs. My other horse, Emir, is Straight Egyptian Arab, and I almost went Arabian again but I decided to try something a bit different with Gitana. We'll see! There are things I love about Emir and things that I'm not crazy about, but I'm sure that's the same with any horse.
