Hi guys, I need a little help, everytime we, (the family) goes on a road trip, (long or short), my 2y old pitbull seems to get motion sick. He starts acting all woozy, then if I don't pull over he'll vomit in the Jeep! Is there any fix to this? Any advice will help, thanks!

My rescued dog gets carsick, too. Yuck, yuck, yuck!! If he doesn't vomit, he gets the poopies, or both.

But I'm not sure his is motion sickness; I have one of those bench swings in my yard, and he'll jump up there and swing with me forever - loves it!

Either way, I need some ideas, too.

Take him on very short rides even a few blocks at a time so he gets used to the car. Increase the length of the trips as he is doing better.

I've heard dogs don't really get motion sickness. They get very nervous and anxious so they vomit. The way to make them stop is to get them very used to and comfortable with the car. Do as Barb said and take him for very short rides around the block often. Eventually he will get used to it.

I've done the short rides, I've done the ginger candy, I've tried in every way to make going out a pleasing experience. I have Hammie get into my car if I'm just in the garage (hoping to rid him of 'car anxiety') and ya know what...he is sick before I'm down my road. I don't feed him prior to going out (don't want to deal with a full tummy at all if they get carsick) so obviously I am no help at all, I am just in misery with you! Hammie is 3 1/2 and he has never 'gotten used to it'. sure wish it were that easy!!!!!!!!

I've heard people have done children's gravol in past with good effects, but I'd ask the vet first.

One of my friends has a dog that got really sick, and she finally got her thru it. She'd actually take the newspaper & her coffee in the morning and sit in the car with Sadie, in the driveway, for an hour or so. She slowly progressed it from there and she's fine now.

Yep, that's what I've heard too. Start off with 5 minutes or so just hanging out in the car, maybe give a treat and definitely lots of praise, then progress to a bit longer. When your dog is totally comfortable in the car, drive down the driveway and back or so, when that is OK, go a little further and a little further each time.
